The West Country / Devon region

Devon has so much to offer: beaches, water sports, fishing, walking, countryside activities and and sightseeing. Dartmoor is a stunning area that is well worth a visit, providing the perfect location for long hikes or more leisurely rambles. Nearby Plymouth has a multiplex cinema. theatre, skating rink and many shops and and sights to enjoy, including the Aquarium and the famous Plymouth Hoe. The area is fortunate to have so many old and historic pubs serving good beer and food. There are several local festivities, one of the most notable among is the Dartmouth Regatta.

Bigbury-on-Sea area

Bigbury-on-Sea is a blue flag beach with lifeguards on duty during the summer months. The beach is ideal for young children, yet also has great conditions for wind and board surfing. Burgh Island, renowned for its Art Deco hotel and 14th century pub, lies off Bigbury-on-Sea and is accessible via the beach at all but high tide, when the famous sea tractor is used. Several other beautiful beaches are within easy reach. This is a lovely, quiet area with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. There are plenty of reasonably priced restaurants/pubs locally, whilst Kingsbridge, Salcome, Dartmouth, Totnes and Plymouth are all within 45 minutes. The South Hams region of Devon has a wealth of attractions: castles. festivals, railways, the Chilli farm and the Woodlands amusement park on the way to Totnes. The local 18 hole golf course is within 1 km and welcomes visitors; there is a second 9 hole course at Thurlestone, about 20 minutes away via the historic tidal road along the Avon Estuary.
