The Devon region
Bantham and Bigbury-on-Sea is part of an area of outstanding natural beauty known as the South Hams in South Devon. The history of South Hams goes back to Roman times and William the Conqueror when Abbots and Monks were building their Churches and Abbeys and selling their liquor to fund these buildings, many of which exist to this day, both Pubs and Churches. Tourists are attracted here for the scenery and climate which, when the sun shines often compares to the Mediterranean. There is plenty to do for every age - from walking and cycling to watersports, surfing, sailing, paddle-boarding, waterskiing, wakeboarding as well visiting places of interest such as the many interesting shops and art galleries in Kingsbridge and Salcombe, Buckfast Abbey and its gardens, the quaint town of Totnes with its castle and there you can take a boat ride down the River Dart to Dartmouth and return to Totnes via the old steam railway. If the children like to experience an adventure then there is Woodlands Family Theme Park near Dartmouth. The Rivermaid Ferry will take you from Kingsbridge at the head of the Estuary down to the famous international sailing centre of Salcombe where you can hire a boat to explore the many creeks off the Estuary. And there is plenty more - too many to mention.
Bantham has a beautiful unspoilt sandy beach with views to Burgh Island and Bigbury-on-Sea at the mouth of the River Avon. Ideal for families, surfers, body boarders and walkers. The S.W. coastal path accessed from the beach or from a path in the field opposite Willows will take you to smugglersâ?? coves, quaint villages and the international sailing centre of Salcombe. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year, but in summer are restricted to the western end (the Ham) which reveals large areas of sand at low tide. RNLI lifeguards patrol throughout summertime and there is a surfing school based there. Other beach facilities are the Gastrobus Beach Caféâ?? and public toilets. Bantham village, a short walk, offers a shop, café, and The Sloop Inn with excellent food! There are 2 golf courses nearby at Thurlestone and Bigbury-on-sea. Nearest town, Kingsbridge, has two supermarkets, medical centre/hospital, cinema, leisure centre with indoor swimming pool, and a variety of cafes, restaurants and pubs. Dartmouth, Plymouth and the vast rugged area of Dartmoor is about half an hourâ??s drive from the lodge.

"Great location, comfortable log cabin and friendly welcome"
We (two adults and two young children) had a lovely week in March 2013 at the log cabin. We loved having Bantham beach just down the road, and the convenience of Kingsbridge and Totnes not far away. The cabin is very comfortable and well equipped, and we received a friendly welcome on arrival.
Many thanks. Glad you had a great time. Come back again soon.
