The West Country region
There are plenty of different beaches to discover. The main beach, 500m walk, at Bigbury-on-Sea, is sandy and safe for children. It has a cafe and shop and lifeguards and a surf school, Discovery Surf. From the main beach you can walk to Burgh Island at low tide. The river beach is called Cockleridge and has rock pools and shells and pebbles, you can reach this beach via the cliff path.
Bigbury Golf course, (18 holes, with breathtaking views) is at the entrance to the village.
The river Avon is good for fishing.
Where to eat out? The Oyster Shack is a restaurant at the tidal road near Aveton Gifford. The other local villages all have excellent pubs with restaurants, The Royal Oak at Bigbury, The Dolphin at Kingston, The Pickwick (pizza oven style) at St Anns Chapel and The Journey's End at Ringmore. Cream Teas, ice creams and lunch and evening menu at the Bay Cafe in Bigbury-on-sea are excellent too, overlooking Burgh Island.
What to do? Kingsbridge and Modbury and very quaint vibrant small towns, ideal for a small shopping visit.
From Kingsbridge, there is an excellent boat trip to Salcombe, if you haven't time for the return trip you can get a bus back to Kingsbrigde.
Children (and grown ups) love Pennywell Farm, getting hands on with farm animals, a theatre show, ride on mini tractors, and an indoor play barn, at Buckfastleigh and The Woodlands Family Theme Park near Dartmouth has great rides, animals and indoor fun play areas.

"Excellent value for money, highly recommend"
Went away with partner and familt to celebratd a birthday. Was amazing, Great value for money, we were worried to begin with as was so cheap compared with others but no needto worry.
On arrival we were astounded by how beautiful the place was, right on the hill above Bigbury the views were amazing. The convertered barn itselfwas great, spacious, well kept and a fully equipped kitchen.
Was a great base and we had some lovely days visiting Burgh Island, Salcombe, Hope Cove and more.
Highly recommend, will def go back.

"Lovely coastal retreat, amazing views and homely place to stay"
Lovely , clean, homely , spacious accomodation which serves as perfect base to explore local beaches and countryside. ideal for coastal walks. Also perfect for families, with local surf school being extremely popular with my son. Golf course also local for those interested. Can recommend getting Tesco online delivery, as much nicer activities to do than shopping whilst on hols!
