Lavington Cottage offers you a comfortable home away from home, in the heart of North Devon. It is situated in a quiet backwater in the centre of the historic old port town of Bideford, but only 50 metres from the main shopping street, with its many shops, cafes and restaurants. There is a designated parking space immediately outside the house. Within easy reach of Beaches, and the Dartmoor and Exmoor Natural Parks, it is perfectly placed for a relaxing holiday. The house itself, though called a cottage, is actually a very spacious and interesting mid Victorian house with a wealth of original features. It is warm, homely and comfortable, rather than luxurious, as reflected in the price. The house is ideal for a large family or two families on holiday together, providing ample accommodation for up to 10 people. There are 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, lounge, dining room and kitchen, plus a patio terrace garden with barbecue and outside dining. Free unlimited WiFi access is available and included in the price.
The house has gas fired central heating throughout. There are 2 bedrooms on the first floor, one with twin beds and the other a large family room, with a double bed and a single bed. The family room has a feature fireplace and interesting decorated ceiling. There is also a family bathroom on the first floor, with bath and shower. On the second floor there is a double room, and another large double or family room, with double bed and single bed. Adjacent to this is the new ensuite bathroom and dressing room. The house is suitable for families and groups and we hope the accommodation is flexible and can accommodate most combinations. Please contact us if you have any special requests regarding this.

We welcome children, and provide lots of children's games and also many books, just in case the weather should be wet!
There is a private patio garden for outside dining and barbecues.
For those visitors with a car, we are extremely fortunate in having our own designated parking space immediately outside the front door, quite a rarity in the centre of town! There is also plenty of other parking nearby for further cars, and we can help with advice on visitors permits.
Less than 10 minutes away are Instow (perfect for bird watching or paddling on the sheltered sandy beach) and Westward Ho! (Blue Flag beach). For surfing enthusiasts, Saunton Sands and Croyde Beach are about 30 minutes away, and the spectacular 3 mile beach at Woolacombe is a little further. To the South are the picturesque villages of Clovelly and Bucks Mills, nestling in deeply wooded valleys, and the dramatic geology of the coast between wild and rugged Hartland Quay and Welcome Mouth.

The nearest airport is at Exeter, less than an hour and a half away; also Bristol airport, just a little further. The closest port is at Plymouth.The nearest train station is at Barnstaple, 20 minutes away. The local bus service is very good and frequent, and there are also plenty of taxis available if you prefer.
Thanks to its position close to the centre of Bideford, Lavington Cottage offers the perfect holiday choice for families and groups of all ages. The friendly local shops in Mill Street are just a minute's walk from the house: cafes, bakeries, greengrocers, butchers and fishmongers, all selling excellent local produce. There are also three supermarkets on the edge of town. The Quay and quayside Park, with playground and paddling pool for younger children and the excellent Café and Museum, are just two minutes' walk away. There is a folder at the house with a wealth of information and recommendations about places to visit: beaches, good walks, entertainment for children, restaurants and cafes, shopping and much more! The Big Sheep, Milky Way and Dartington Glass, three of North Devon's most popular wet weather attractions for all the family are close at hand. For evening entertainment and dining, a plethora of pubs and restaurants await you and takeaways galore are equally close. For teenagers and younger people, there are discos and disco bars, within easy walking distance. Bideford is large enough to supply all the essentials, but retains its friendly old world charm and proud history. It is even possible to enjoy a holiday here without your own transport. Whilst beaches and countryside are only a short drive away, there is a comprehensive bus network, so many places can also be enjoyed without a car. Walk or cycle direct from home on the Coast Path or the Tarka Trail, both of which pass close to the house. Cycle Hire is available just near Bideford's historic old bridge. For more serious hiking, Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks are close at hand. Or for those who just want to relax, Westward Ho! beach is just 4 Km away, and other close beaches include Bude, Croyde and Woolacombe.
