There are two double bedrooms and one of the double beds can be converted into two single beds. There are two bathrooms. The location is great being in the Country side but yet it is only a few miles away from the coast and the towns of Bideford and Barnstaple, so very convenient for touring North Devon and Cornwall. Set in 10 acres of grounds, the tranquil Penhaven estate provides a perfect base to relax, unwind and enjoy everything the region has to offer. With great beaches nearby and activities from walking and golf to fishing and surfing, North Devon has it all. It is a character cottage set in quiet woodland grounds, located in quiet village of Parkham, near Bideford, Devon, close to Westwood Ho! Bude and Padstow.

The West Country region
Rose cottage is located in the peaceful village of Parkham but not too far from many local attractions, beaches and shops. It is close to a number of popular family attractions, especially for children, three of the most popular attractions are The Big Sheep, The Milky Way and Atlantis Adventure Park. All three of these attractions are about a 15 to 20 minute drive from Rose cottage. Check out their WEB sites. Most of these attractions offer special pricing for second visits so it's worth keeping an eye out for offers, there are always plenty of brochures around on local attractions and we often leave some in the cottage. I have enclosed some information on these attractions with this letter.
Regarding beaches, Westward Ho! is about a 20 minute drive and is an excellent beach when the tide is out with a good expanse of sand and plenty of rock pools to explore. Bude is a little further and is about a 25 to 30 minute drive and has good beaches and a good town for holiday shopping. Further south is Padstow which is a very nice seaside town and is popular with visitors partly because Rick Stein has several restaurants there.
The famous village of Clovelly is always worth a visit, it is quite a famous village as it is positioned on the hill. However you have to pay to access the village, which can be a bit expensive when you have a family. The walk through the village to the harbour is quite steep, so you will need a good pair of flat shoes. There is a taxi service to get you back up the hill to the car park.
There are also a number of stately houses to visit, Hartland Abbey is one we like as it's usually quiet and has nice gardens and you can access the local rocky beach (called Blackpool beach!!) The antiques road show was filmed there about a year ago and it's where Prince William had his stag party and apparently William and his friends played a football on the lawn in front of the house. The good thing is the press never knew anything about the stag party.
For Shopping, the local town Bideford has good shops and has a good Morrisons Supermarket. We usually do our grocery shopping in Morrisons on our way to Rose Cottage. There is also a good shopping centre called Atlantic Village on the edge of Bideford, which is about 15 to 20 minutes from the Cottage.
Atlantic Village has a number of factory outlet shops that sell a variety of camping, walking and beach equipment, as well as an Asda supermarket. We find Atlantic Village quite useful especially if you have forgotten any walking, camping or beach equipment. There are also a number of large shops and petrol station in Bideford town. The Petrol in Morrisons seems to be the cheapest in the area.
Penhaven allows you to enjoy everything that North Devon has to offer. One of the great benefits of holidaying in the region is the contrast available, from some of the most stunning coastlines and beaches through to the traditional rolling hills of Tarka country. From sleepy, hidden hamlets to traditional market towns or vibrant coastal resorts. It is no surprise that holidaymakers repeatedly return to the area.
There is so much to see and do, you are spoilt for choice; sightseeing, walking in the countryside, lazing on a beach, horse-riding, playing golf, going fishing or catching the surf - North Devon has it all.
One of England's largest counties, Devon can offer a mix of scenery from rolling countryside with small fields, villages with thatched cottages through to majestic rivers and estuaries. A unique mixture of coastal highlights blended with stunning countryside.
Enjoy villages with cobbled streets, small towns with fascinating markets, or white houses and tree-lined quays while watching boats come and go in the harbor of picturesque ports and coastal resorts. Devon is the perfect place to relax and recharge or to challenge and energies, and here are just a few top attractions in and around North Devon:
Appledore has been a thriving fishing and trading village since the 14th century.
Clovelly. One of the World's unique villages.
Bideford Bridge. Bideford gained its first market charter more than 700 years ago.
The beach at Bucks Mills, part of Devon's coastal beauty, which defies description.
Great Torrington, at the very heart of Tarka Country.
Lundy Island, nature reserve.
Watersmeet, Lynmouth, spectacular coastal, woodland walking • Lynton & Lynmouth, cliff railway.
The Valley of Rocks.

"The Throwers come to town"
This was our first visit to Devon, and it certainly will not be our last. Rose Cottage is picture perfect and beautifully decorated and kitted out. Everything you need is there. We had one rainy day but our two young boys were entertained by the excellent flat screen tv & dvd combination, whilst the wifi broadband kept "her indoors" happy as she played on her Ipad. There is ample parking outside the cottage.
The cottage is situated in the lovely Parkham where peace and quiet is the order of the day. If you want to get away from it all, this is your ideal retreat (whilst being not too far from civilisation for your bare necessities)
Overall, wonderful and highly recommended!

Fab cottage, excellent facilities and immaculate. Loved it. Area is stunning. Morrisons in Bideford for shopping! Hartford Point is beautiful as is Clovelly, Appledore (fab fish and chips from shop next to pub) is also beautiful. Pub up the road, easy walk and good food with friendly welcome. Went back again for a long weekend the next month. Think that says it all. Book and enjoy!
