Further details outdoors:
It is drop-dead beautiful, and peaceful beyond your dreams. Live the 18th century style amid quiet fields and cattle, woods in which you can wander at will, and enjoy with your dog. You can walk down the drive and find the Tarka Trail just there; he originated in our vicinity. Also at the bottom of the drive is found our Torridge fishing, suitable for families. More challenging fishing is found on beats nearby which can be rented by the day or week. Wildlife galore including foxes, rabbits, badgers and the like. There are beautiful shippons from the old days, and the birds sing so songlully all the time.
Further details
The property is ideal for your dog or dogs, who are invited to live downstairs only, but can have a comfortable hideout in the mudroom.
You are asked only to be aware that the working farm just behind us is home to many cattle and sheep. Please be prepared to control your dog if there is any danger of chasing sheep. There is masses of walking space, especially in the Fernhills, the woods on either side of the drive.
The farmers, the Grigg family, have lived here most of their lives, and are very charming.

A quiet landscape, just 4 miles from Bideford, three from Great Torrington. A 15 minute drive to the exquisite beach at Westward Ho!; lovely view across valley of Weare Gifford; attractive fishing just at bottom of private drive, and the Tarka Trail is there too, ready for walks with your dog, or biking along the trail.
A short drive, of about 25 minutes takes you to the lovely traditional, cobble-stoned streets of Clovelly, and its lovely big house and gardens. Also nearby here is the lovely ancient house of Hartland Abbey, and its famous gardens; the cliff landscapes of the coastline here are wild, and dramatic. Wonderful cliffside walking, all the way to Cornwall. There are opportunities to spend time surfing here, or at Westward Ho!; Saunton Sands and the seaside landscape of Instow are again just beyond Bideford, on the way to Barnstaple.
The climate is usually quite mild and warm; you can enjoy a great many outdoor activities in North Devon. It is a holiday Mecca filled with attractions.
The Bideford / Great Torrington area
Bideford is an attractive market town, with its own Pannier Market, its ancient stone bridge, and a quay with ocean going ships mooring right there; there is good food to be had at the Museum Cafe; Appledore is just a mile away, a lovely sail boat village, with attractive pubs, and fish and chip shops; Great Torrington, again with a Pannier market, is the other way, only three miles away, and has its own distinct character, featuring re-enactment of the Civil War battle of 1646; you will find locals dressed as Cavaliers, or Roundheads parading around and regaling you on the history of those times.
