This old rendered stone and timber master mariner's cottage sits on the quayside, with uninterrupted views across the estuary to the pretty village of Instow and the rolling countryside beyond. The village of Appledore has long been a popular retreat with its maze of narrow lanes and quaint colourful cottages. The front door opens on to the charming Market Street, closed to traffic and punctuated with interesting shops from chandlers to art galleries. The cottage allows you to open the doors and gates and be part of the local community or sit in the garden or gaze from the windows in complete privacy.
Holidaying in Appledore allows you to relinquish reliance on the car, with a regular bus service leading along the coast and to North Devon's hub towns. The traditional Victorian seaside village of Westward Ho! is easily reached and enjoys England's oldest golf course, Royal North Devon, that cris-crosses the Northam Burrows Country Park and is protected by the naturally occurring Pebble Ridge that runs the length of this two mile golden sandy beach. Stunning coastal and rural walks within a short journey you can be within the rolling countryside that Devon is famed for, and that is also littered with numerous National Trust properties, RHS gardens and a wealth of family attractions all within easy reach. Or why not simply relax within the enclosed garden or while away your evenings watching the fishing and pleasure boats drift up and down the estuary.
This recently renovated cottage offers THREE bedrooms: 1 double and 1 zip and link double (which can be made into 2'6" twin on request), enjoying estuary views - two small steps down to the double which has a seating area to make the most of the view, and 1 second twin overlooks the very pretty Market Street. All bedrooms are located on the first floor reached via steep cottage-style stairs with removable stairgate at the top. Bathroom: bath and WC which is located on the first floor, with a further shower room and WC on the ground floor. Lounge/kitchen/diner: with flatscreen TV with DVD and Freeview and coal effect gas fire. Kitchen area with integrated oven and hob, fridge with ice compartment, microwave and dishwasher. Large bootroom with washing machine. Outside: enclosed rear cobbled courtyard with seating. Amenities: garage with parking for 1 car and further parking usually available on the road or Churchfields car park (200 yards away). A parking permit is available via the local council. Bed linen, towels, electric, central heating and Wi-Fi included. Regret no smoking within the property. 1 dog welcome, second by arrangement on the ground floor only. Location: beach 2 miles, shops, pubs and restaurants all within walking distance.
