Southole Barns are beautifully situated at the top of a south facing valley in a designated Coastal Preservation Area & Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Barns sit within a peaceful & secluded setting & enjoy amazing views over the surrounding countryside. The South West Coastal Path is within 150 meters, providing uninterrupted cliff top & coastal walks along it's rugged coastline, renowned for its dramatic scenery and breathtaking sea views & shipwrecks . It's also close to many stunning & secluded sandy & rock-pool beaches. The Barns are a courtyard of former Victorian Monastery buildings that have been beautifully converted to a very high standard over the past 3 years, to form 4 exclusive & unique self catering properties. The courtyard is laid to cobbled & slate, with beautiful raised flower beds, including Fig & Ornamental Artichoke, sitting within 4 acres of gardens & meadow land with a charming stream fed pond. Ideal location for birdwatchers & nature lovers

Week St Mary Barn is a lovely South facing barn conversion, accessed from the courtyard and pastureland views from the living room and bedroom.
Dual aspect master bedroom with a magnificent super-king size bed & antique mahogany furniture. Ensuite shower room with double shower cubicle. Open plan living and dining area with a galley kitchen, wood flooring throughout and a quirky traditional cast iron electric fire.
Week St Mary is an ideal property for a romantic retreat or honeymoon.

There are benches for dining & a love swing set by the pond and ample lawn for children to play.
We have resident ducks & bantam chickens and children are welcome to help feed & collect the eggs daily.

The Barns are 3 miles from the A39 (Atlantic Highway) on the boarder between Devon & Cornwall.
So giving easy access to both North Devon and Cornish coastlines, beaches and seaside resorts such as Bude, Widemouth Bay, Instow, Appledore, Boscastle and legendary Tintagel as well as King Arthur's Castle. The picturesque fishing ports of Clovelly, Bideford & Padstow, home to Rick Stein's restaurant empire are all within easy reach.
Plus many fabulous attractions for both young & old, from gardens, cream tea's & manor houses, to children activity centres and surf schools.

The Bideford / Southole area

Southole Barns are located in the small hamlet of Southole within the Parish of Hartland and 1.5 mile from unspoilt Welcombe Mouth Beach. The village of Welcombe is less than 1 mile away with its Church, Village Hall, Pottery, our Community Shop and a Thatched Public House 'The Old Smithy Inn' which is well known for good food within the area.

From Junction 27 of M5 at Tiverton, take A361 North Devon Link Road towards Barnstaple.
Just before Barnstaple, turn left onto the A39 signposted Bude and Bideford.

Continue past Bideford for about 15 miles, past turnings for Clovelly and Hartland.Turn right at the crossroads, sign posted Welcombe.

After 1.5 miles, take the right fork signposted “Church”, pass through Welcombe village, past the Church on the right and continue to the bottom of the hill.
At the ‘T’ junction turn right signposted Southole and Elmscott.
Proceed up the gentle hill and in the hamlet of Southole, the Barns can be seen on the right hand side at the head of the valley.

“First-class hospitable accomodation in a beautiful peaceful setting” We were welcomed by a lovely Devon cream tea after a long journey, which was great... The one-bedroom cottage was beautifully and professionally presented and has a superb view. Everything has very clear instructions, which is gratifying. It was very cosy and warm, with every facility we needed. We also loved the courtyard and spacious garden - and enjoyed hours on the wooden swing. This is an excellent location for long walks over the hils and to the sea. Seldon's hospitality was warm and helpful. Highly recommended. We'd certainly come again...

“The ultimate hideaway - peace & tranquillity” Our second stay at Sothole in the Week St.Mary Barn. Southole is an excellent base for walking parts of the coastal path and although it's very quiet and peaceful it isn't far to Bude or Bideford if towns interests you more. Seldon always provides a warm welcome, is on hand if you need advice, and the accommodation is spotless and very comfortable

“Romantic Retreat” The cottage was beautiful and in a stunning location only a few minutes from the coast. We were greeted warmly and the owner suggested a number of walks which were stunning and places to eat which were great. The cream tea on arrival was a lovely touch which set the scene for a very relaxing break.

“Perfect Stay in a Perfect Cottage!” Wonderful location, high quality cottage perfect for two people. All fittings and furniture to the highest standard. One of the best night sleep we have had in a long time : - ) Literally, a 5 minute walk to the coastal path with spectacular views. Last but not least, accommodating and friendly host. Would highly recommend. A perfect Valentines weekend away!

“Magnificent location with high class accommodation” A great location for a relaxing holiday. The barns are furnished to a high standard with all the facilities for a self catering holiday. Seldon (the owner) is on site to provide assistance and advice if required. The communal room is a large plus with the free use of a large collection of Videos/DVDs/CDs with indepth local information. The location (just a short distance from the coastal path) allows the opportunity to explore the magnificent walks along the cliff tops with marvelous views to the coast line below. Everything about the holiday was first class and would highly recommend Southole Barns

“Great, comfortable stay at Week St Mary Barn” My wife and I and our young baby had a great week at Southole Barns. We stayed in the Week St Mary Barn which was a good size to accommodate us and a small child. We appreciated the small touches like welcome scones and provision of baby bath. The Barn was very comfortable and well equipped which was a big advantage when the weather took a turn for the worse and we were house-bound. As a place, it was well located, just a few minutes from the sea and the coastal path. The barns are off the beaten track which will be a advantage to some like ourselves and a disadvantage to others. There is a 10 minute single track drive to and from the mainroad but we didn't find it a problem. There is an excellent pub, the 'Old Smithy' nearby which has a cosy, thatched cottage, roaring fire and wooden beams feel with a seventies twist. Loads to do in the area and good information was provided in the barn. All in all, a very good holiday.

“A peaceful and relaxing stay on a beautiful location” This is a quiet and charming place. The apartment was spacy and beautiful furnished. Relaxing athmosphere. The host, Seldon Scott, was very service minded. The garden was very nice. There are lots of possibilities for walking tours along the Atlantic coast path. Nice villiages to visit. Seldon gave us good advices about things to see and visit. A detail to be improved: The quality of the cutlery. Overall: A lovely stay in Week St. Mary's barn!

“The ideal "get away from it all" holiday” Certainly the place to stay if you want a quiet , relaxing break. Set in beautiful surroundings Southole Barns cannot be recommended highly enough, we stayed in the 1 bedroom apartment and everything required is there and finished to a high standard. Fully equipped kitchen area, lovely large bedroom, if you fancy relaxing after a long day out then there's plenty of DVD's and Video's to borrow on site. Local pub not far away, short drive or slightly long stroll. Seldon is a great host and full of information if you need ideas where to visit locally. Ideal for any "walkers" as 5 mins and you are strolling along the Atlantic coast walk with great views and scenery. The A39 is only a 10 min drive away through the country lanes so access to Devon and Cornwall is easy. Plenty of lovely secluded beaches and coves are only a few mins drive away especially if you want stunning photo possibilities. Certainly the most relaxing and quiet holiday we have had, great for recharging the batteries. Would highly recommend and most certainly will visit again.

“Very lovely cottage, fabulous surroundings” We had a great vacation. The cottages was excellent. Everything you need was there and even more. It started with a warm welcome and nice scones to go with the tea! There was information enough to find out what to do in the area and the coast with stunning views was just a few minutes away. Definitely a place to go back for! Sheldon en Allison, thanks for our great stay in the southole barns.
