The West Country region
The North Devon Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is a stunning coastal area which is nationally protected for the beauty of its landscape. It is at the heart of North Devon's UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and covers 171 km sq of the coastal landscape from Marsland Mouth on the Cornish border to Combe Martin on the boundary of Exmoor National Park.
Many people visit the AONB to enjoy the fine beaches and breathtaking coastline. The main tourist beaches at Westward Ho!, Saunton, Croyde and Woolacombe are some of the best in the South West and are popular with holiday makers, surfers and other water sport users.
For those however, who prefer to discover the peace and tranquillity of the countryside, especially the superb coastline, there is the South West Coast Path, National Cycle Routes and numerous public paths that make up the Public Rights of Way Network, giving good access to the area.
Bideford is an excellent base for many outdoor activities, such as golf, watersports, walking & cycling along the Tarka trail. Today Bideford is both a thriving market town and working port with much to offer visitors to the region. Alongside the history you will find modern shopping amenities, plus a wide choice of bars & restaurants
