Home description

The town house (with small rear terrace) is located in a leafy residential area of Biarrtiz which has both Lac Marion and Lac Mouriscot on its doorstep. It also has the Hippodrome, L'Eglise Saint-Martin and two of finest restaurants in the vicinity. The local shops within easy walking distance include a Boulangerie, Boucherie, Poissonnerie, Magasin des Fleurs, Banque, Pharmacie, Tabac, La Poste and Petit Casino Supermarche. Some basic French would be useful as this area of Biarritz is nicely detached from the more touristy areas where some English is spoken.

The town centre or the beaches are approx 20 mins walk or 5 min bus ride. Both the North and South Pays Basque countryside is easily accessible from this part of town including Donibane Garazi, Donibane Lohizune, Guethary, Donostia and Getaria. Please note that this area of Biarritz is slightly affected by the the local airport depending on wind direction etc.

Within easy access are the numerous sporting facilites of the area including Golf, Surf, Tennis, Rugby, Cycling, Walking, Pelote, Cesta Punta, River Sports and Motorcycling! This area is also popular for those looking for Health Spa Facilities. The Pyrenees Mountains are about a 2 hour drive.

I participate in most of the sports and activities mentioned so if you need any help or advice on what to do in the area I am happy to try and help.

This property was originally bought as a second / holiday home and now that I live in Biarritz more permanently elsewhere, the property is available for holiday rentals.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Pyrenees Atlantiques region

The Pyrénées Atlantiques department of France is split into the Pays Basque and the Béarn. Both areas hold on to their strong traditions and there is a definite style of architecture for each area. White-washed houses with red or green shutters in the Pays Basque and high-pitched stone houses in the Béarn.

This is an area of France which has its own micro-climate. The winters are particularly mild, rarely dropping below 6°c. Summers can be hot but they rarely rise above 35°c and there is always a cooler breeze on the coast. The summers are not arid so this region is filled with lush vegetation - palm and banana trees, magnolia and camelias.

The Spanish influence means that local produce have a hint of "piment" with a great variety of local seafood, spicy sausages and local Basque dishes.
The nearby department of the Landes offers endless acres of pine forest for walking and cycling and also vast expanses of untouched sand dunes, a contrast to the rugged Basque coast with its coves.

Biarritz area

There really is something for everyone here. The Basque country has plenty of delights for you to discover: its beaches and mountains, the Landes with its pine forests and the Béarn with its salmon fishing and white water rafting,.You can pop over to Spain and discover the beautiful, unpoilt coastline of Galicia and San Sebastien.

How to get there

Ryanair direct flights to Biarritz from London Stansted, from Dublin ( from March 15th 2008) and Shannon, Ireland ( from April 3rd 2008).
Biarritz airport is a 5 min drive from the property.
Easyjet direct flights from Bristol (from April 23rd 2008), London Gatwick (from 4th July 2008).
Also flights to Bordeaux, Bilbao and Pau airports ( all within max 90 mins from property)
Trains to Biarritz (TGV)
By car with Brittany ferries from Portsmouth and Rosslare - St Malo or Portsmouth - Bilbao (Spain)
Taxi services (between 10 and 15 euros from airport) and regular bus services from Biarritz.

To secure booking a deposit of 30% is requested when submitting booking form.
The balance is required 4 weeks before departure.

A damages deposit of 500 Pounds Sterling is requested with the balance.

No smoking or pets in the house.

I intend to be particularly careful as to who rents it and I reserve the right to carrry out whatever checks I consider appropriate and to refuse reservations.
