About this location

The Basque Country region

The French Basque Country or Northern Basque Countrysituated within the western part of the French departmentof the Pyrenees-Atlantiques is delimited in the north by thedepartment of Landes, in the west by the Bay of Biscay, inthe south by the southern Basque Country and in the east byBéarn. Biarritz and Bayonne are its chief towns.

In medieval times the Basque Country was a fishing and whaling community. Whaling was important to the region's existence into the 17th century. Today the Basque Country is primarily a tourist destination, but stillmanages to maintain its character and steer clear of tackiness. This ismainly because most visitors come from nearby Spain and from the rest of France. The Basque Coast boasts more than 30 km of beaches.

The backcountry has much to o?er as well, Basque villages that have remained nestled in an

authentic countryside. And on top of it Spain is just a stone's throw away if you want to go out for San Sebastian's world-renowned tapas. In Biarritz and the surrounding area, you'll be able to truly experience a surprisingregion through its cuisine, its traditions and its geography…

A prime destination forever branded by the passage of Napoleon III and the famous Eugenie, Biarritz has always beenone of France's most welcoming towns. A century ago, thanksto the Empress Eugenie, the little whaling town became a fashionable summer resort that, through the years, hasstayed open to the outside world without ever losing itsidentity.

Today Biarritz is undoubtedly the only town where you can see neoprene-clad surfers with their surf boards under their arms crossing paths withbusinessmen in suits and ties carrying towels. A funny image, yet socommon… Open and cosmopolitan, Biarritz, the “Pearl of the Basquecoast”, carries this mix of styles close to its heart and loves bringingopposites together.

"Central but Peaceful location"

Even if everything is very closed from the villa (beaches in 2 minutes, convenience stores 800 meters away) the villa is very peaceful and quiet, the several levels give a lot of privacy to each one a… More
