Beaches in Biarritz
Plage Miramar
The Miramar Beach was named after the Miramar Hotel. Previously known as Bernain Beach, plage Miramar was hugely popular in the 1930’s.
A sanctuary colonized by Gulls and Cormorants faces the beach. The Winston Churchill passage leads you from Miramar beach to the Grand Plage via the Hotel du Palais.
The Grande Plage
The Grande Plage used to be the known as the Madmans Coast. It then became the Windmill Coast until 1958 when it was named the Empress’ Beach. With the fall of the Empire in 1871 it was renamed again as the Grande Plage(The Main Beach). The biggest and probably the most beautiful beach in Biarritz, it stretches from the Hotel du Palais in the North to the Bellevue in the south. It is the only beach to have kept its colourful canvas tents that can be hired on a daily basis.
The Port Vieux Beach
Known as Vieux-Port until 1897 when it was changed to Port-Vieux. The beach is a natural tidal pool sheltered by rocks at both side which expose at low tide. Port Vieux was the first of Biarrtz Beaches to install canvas tents for changing. These tent were replaced by huts built on piles on the beach. In 1858, under instruction from Napoleon III, a bathing shelter was erected. It was replaced in 1924 by a more solid building in concrete but that was destroyed by bombing. After the war the obsolete cabins were replaced by a horse track flanked by curving stone steps.

Biarritz Le Phare
18 hole Biarritz Le Phare golf course is the second oldest course on the continent. Situated in the centre of Biarritz, le Phare is one of 10 golf courses in the area within a radius of a half hour's drive. Due to the course being on the Atlantic coast, the climate is particularly mild during winter and not too hot during summer. Biarritz Le Phare offers excellent playing conditions, superb greens and a very playable course which is open all year round. The par 69 course of 18 holes is set over a distance of 5376m.

Makila Golf Course
The Makila Golf-Club is a par 72 18 hole course, 6176m. long. This natural site, established on rolling hills and valleys, through a forest of centuries old oak trees, was harmoniously designed by the talented American Architect Rocky Roquemore.
With large fairways, the course provides very different holes for golfers of all levels, and for the pleasure of the players a varying country side, with the Pyrenees mountains in the distance and the coast of Biarritz just 5kms away.

Moliets Golf Course
The Golf de Moliets is a remarkable golf course laid out in the pine forests of Les Landes (for 13 holes) and along the coast (5 holes). While the more proficient golfer will find this a tough challenge, playing from the forward tees is funnily enough, often more conducive to error. The famous jagged bunkers are a remarkable form of defense for the greens, three of which are virtually blind, and the putting surfaces are neatly but never excessively contoured.

Voted best golf course in France by the Association of British Tour Operators to France and 15th European golf course by the magazine Golf World, the Golf de Seignosse is a true work of art recognized by the best players. The course winds through the forest, surrounded by majestic pine and oak trees, a pleasure to play for all golfers.
