Home description
The house sits in magnificent parkland and is an ideal French retreat, being about 4 minutes drive from Capestang town in the grounds of a 19th century Chateau which dominates the park and which is a private home. The owners are charming and welcoming, and the grounds are free to enjoy except for the immediate area around the chateau. The house has its own entrance and full availability of the swimming pool, barbecue picnic area, children's park, tennis court and an ideal place to stay for a relaxing holiday, with the French aristocracy as neighbours. You will enjoy their company at some stage during your stay no doubt. The house is just 20 minutes from the Mediterranean beaches but there are lots of other facilities in the region such as golf, riding, fishing and of course ideal cycling country. The towns of Carcassone, Perpignan and Montpellier are within an hour and the Spanish border an hour and a half, Barcelona is 3 hours. The local towns of Narbonne, Beziers and Pezenas are much closer and offer a host of things to explore and do particularly during the many festivals that take place in the region.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region
The Languedoc is one of the most popular regions of France with its long sandy beaches, rolling hills and vineyards and these days easy access, either by plane or car. The latter takes you over the highest road bridge in the world at Millau on the A75, when travelling south and just over an hour from the house. The climate is hot and sunny with temperatures often in the high 30's in summer and with over 300 days of sunshine a year the house is well situated. Capestang on the Canal du Midi is an ideal place to wail away the time watching the boats that cruise between the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea. There are a number of restaurants in the wine village as well as all the shops, bars and a large supermarket in Capestang.
Beziers area
The village offers a number of bars and shops as well as the Abbey on the Pilgrim route to St Jacques de Compestelle and a lovely tree lined square lively most days including Sundays and Thursdays when the local market is on. The Canal is a great place to walk or sit and watch the boats or enjoy a meal. There are several other restaurants within a five minute drive, some on the Canal. Beziers is 15 minutes drive with lots of shops, cathedral and Cathar history as well as fetes year round. Pezenas a 35 minute drive away is full of history based on the plays of Moliere, the equivalent of Shakespeare but a little more humorous, and full of shops and boutiques as well as restaurants and bars. St Chinian is one of France's most popular wines.
