Home description
A real little gem is this recently- and sympathetically-restored cottage built in about 1800. The immaculately-presented property is a comfortable size for 4 people who'll not only enjoy the beautiful garden of the manor house and eating alfresco in the sunny courtyard garden, but will also appreciate all the delightful things there are to see and do in the area: Beziers, Narbonne, Carcassonne, Pezenas, the Mediterranean coast, the Canal du Midi, Montpellier, the Cevennes mountains, and the coastal Bassin de Thau.
You enter the light and airy rooms through the French windows from the gravelled terrace of the courtyard garden. Renovated nicely and decorated with very good taste, many of the original features of the house have been retained: exposed beams, stripped wooden doors and terracotta tiles. The kitchen and living room, with a wood-burning stove, are open plan and a stone staircase leads to the second floor where you'll find two good-sized bedrooms overlooking the garden, and a large bathroom. The house is centrally heated and, with the addition of the wood-burning stove, it's a cosy place to stay for an out-of-season holiday or whilst house-hunting in the area.
The house is situated about 10 kms (10 minutes drive) north of Beziers, and about 20 minutes drive from the Mediterranean coast, in a small hamlet called Cabrerolles (loosely translated as the home of frolicking lambs!). The slightly larger village of Espondeilhan is close by. It's a peaceful, rural setting in the midst of rolling countryside and vineyards interspersed with fairy-tale chateaux. Two bicycles are available your use.
Guests at the Pavillon Emeraude are also invited to enjoy the terrace and the garden of the manor house which is operated as a small bed and breakfast, and may also use the sauna in the manor house garden for a small extra charge.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region
This part of the Languedoc has a sunny Mediterranean climate. It can be hot in summer, but the temperature is often tempered by a breeze. Now the 3rd most visited region in France by British people, the Languedoc offers something for everyone. Miles of long, sandy beaches, coastal lagoons, vibrant cities such as Beziers, Narbonne and Montpellier, historical sites such as Carcassonne and the Cathar castles, fabulous scenery, interesting coastline, great local cuisine and vineyards, vineyards, vineyards.
Beziers / Espondeilhan-Cabrerolles area
The local village Espondeilhan is a short walk away (1km) and has a bakers. All other shopping facilities, a mini-supermarket and bar/restaurants can be found in Servian about 3 kms away. For bigger shops and hypermarkets, you go to Beziers (12kms).
At Pavillon Emeraude, you'll find 2 adult bicycles to use. You can play tennis in the local village Espondeilhan or swim at the municipal pool at Servian - and of course the Mediterranean beaches are only 20 minutes drive. Horse riding is also available locally. You may also use the sauna in the garden of the manor house for a small extra charge.
When sight-seeing, the lively cities of Beziers and Narbonne are well worth seeing for their beautiful cathedrals and interesting markets. Whilst in Beziers it's interesting to see the Canal du Midi and its staircase of 9 locks at Fontseranes. A short drive away is Pezenas, very popular with English people for its lovely historic centre. The play-wright Moliere wrote his first plays here. Other days trip from here could include: the medieval city of Carcassonne, the Cathar castles, and a 45 minute drive will bring you to the mountainous region of the Cevennes, where there lots of beautiful scenery. The Mediterranean coast offers sailing, water-skiing and wind-surfing as well as lazy days on the beach and swimming. The Rivers Orb and Herault offer swimming, canoeing and fishing.
The local markets are colourful and interesting. In Beziers (12kms) there is a market in Les Halles every morning except Monday which is famous for its local food. There is a delightful flower market on the Avenue Paul-Riquet on a Friday - and in the same location an antiques fair on the first Saturday in the month. Servian and Pezenas both also have markets.
Servian is a flourishing wine-producing town with an old centre and narrow twisting streets. It has 3 bar-restaurants, one small restaurant and a take away Pizza parlour.
