Home description
Les Terraces cottage nestles in a delightful hamlet named Le Pech, 1 mile from Beynac and 5 miles from Sarlat.
Le Pech, perched on one of the most beautiful edges of the Perigord Noir, offers a panoramic view of the Dordogne valley, dotted with the medieval castles of Beynac, Les Milandes, Feyrac and Marqueyssac. Les Terraces cottage and the other 2 cottages (adverts 16081 & 16082) are recently and traditionally restored with old stone-tiled roofs, stone built walls, exposed beams and original fireplaces,...
If you're a group friends, the cottages (50 meters part) can be rented jointly allowing everyone to be together whilst remaining independent. For nature lovers and for those who appreciate the authentic rural life, Le Pech is a peaceful place where the sound of goats’ bells or a donkey braying in the Pêcheur Cottage’s field will tempt you out for a long walk along the nature trail running through the hamlet (see our website for more photos and information).

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
The Dordogne, or the Périgord as it is known by the French, is one of the most beautiful regions in France. The Périgord Noir, which derives its name from the black truffles found here and its walnuts, is to be found in the triangle of Sarlat, Domme and Les Eyzies, cut through by the Dordogne and Vézère rivers. The Périgord Noir is a stunning mixture of prehistoric caves hidden in tree-covered valleys and medieval castles dating from the 100 years war. You cannot fail to be impressed by the number and variety of castles that there are to visit, as well as the multitude of cavemen dwellings and underground sites.
The Périgord Noir is also famous for its cuisine. You can expect some form of duck on every menu, either the famous duck or goose liver (foie gras) or “confit de canard” or the lighter “magret de canard”. You should try the truffles, whose farming grounds are kept a very close secret by the truffle hunters, and also the cèpes, a very tasty form of mushroom. And to accompany it all, wine from the nearby Bordeaux or Bergerac regions, preceded by a walnut wine to get the juices flowing. Don’t expect to go home lighter than when you set off…
Beynac area
The medieval village of Beynac is dominated by its spectacular castle, which overlooks the Dordogne valley, giving an unrestricted view over many miles of countryside, dotted with castles. The village itself clings to the steep hillside below and is an extraordinary sight to behold. You will find restaurants, antique shops, a post office, a bread shop and, more recently, a small grocery store at the foot of the hillside, beside the river, and you can also take a traditional boat along the Dordogne from Beynac to discover the other castles that line this part of the river. Given its location, halfway between St-Cyprien and Sarlat, Beynac is an ideal departure point for exploring the many tourist attractions of the Périgord Noir.

From Australia, September 2004 – Les Terraces
"Hi there to Caroline and Didier, We are well settled in back here in Australia. We had a wonderful time at Le Pech. We will never forget it. Didier, please say a special thanks to your mother and father who so graciously entertained us in their home. Please send our love and thanks to both of them. Would you also please send our love to Liliane M.. Please tell her that we are having a baby boy on the 29th of June and thank her for all that she did for us.
Love to all of you in France. You are fantastic people. Please don't let all the foreigners buy you properties. The thing we noticed most about France is the incredible pride and attention you pay to your environment. We have only ever seen such care and love of the land in one other place, 'Tuscany' Italy. We really hope we can find a way to come and stay again.
Love, Upi and Emma W.
