Home description
Uniquely designed for a couple, Champ d’Alcause is a charming secluded cottage ideally located just outside medieval Beynac in the valley of the five chateaux. Set on a private acre-and-a-half of park like gardens and bordered by forest, the elevated south-facing property enjoys delightful Dordogne valley and chateaux views. Exclusive use of the entire gated grounds ensures privacy, peace of mind and secure parking in this highly sought-after area only minutes from spectacular castles, medieval villages, the enchanting river and renowned restaurants.
This restored medieval stone cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, wireless broadband, English satellite TV, a fireplace and central heating yet still retains its original charm. The cosy, oak-beamed lounge room has direct access to the spa terrace and the cathedral-ceiling bedroom enjoys views of the local Romanesque church.
Guests will find the outdoor spa is equally perfect for lazy stargazing as therapeutic massage after an active day of canoeing, walking, cycling or exploring. And its position on the terrace adjacent to the house ensures privacy, views and year-round appeal. The private orchard provides not only a novel source of apples, plums, figs and persimmon but an opportunity to observe wildlife - like deer and woodpeckers. Whilst sunset dining overlooking medieval Beynac chateau, the subtle peal of 12th century village bells and a changing landscape of wheat, corn and sunflower fields below are all welcome reminders of French country life - awaiting you in the heart of the Perigord at Champ d’Alcause.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
Traditionally divided into four regions, the Perigord Noir is the Dordogne’s most enchanting. It is an evocative, diverse region that is home to prehistoric caves, medieval castles, oak-forested valleys, winding rivers, limestone cliffs, sandstone-cobbled villages, truffles and foie gras. It is a fertile, productive landscape dotted with some of the most beautiful villages in France and cherished for its scenery, history, and gastronomy.
Beynac / Vezac area
At the heart of the Perigord Noir, in the valley of the five chateaux, is the hamlet of Vezac. Whether you choose to canoe, walk, cycle or horse ride in this picturesque valley, or to float above it in a hot air balloon you won’t have to venture far. Nor will you miss rival medieval castles Beynac and Castelnaud, dramatically positioned high above the river, open year-round, and visible from Vezac. The riverside village of La Roque-Gageac, carved into honey cliffs, is yet another of your local, heritage-listed villages, and will vie with bastide town Domme for your attention.
Yet how to spend your day in an area renowned for its clean river, fortified castles, fresh markets, prehistoric caves and manicured gardens is only part of the choice. Then there is evening. Whether you are already familiar with pepper-rolled foie gras or have never tried a walnut aperitif in Sarlat, gastronomic delights linger around every cobbled corner. Perhaps you have already experienced fireworks over Chateau de Castelnaud, evening walks around Marqueyssac Gardens, sunset at Domme - or perhaps these are just some of the surprises awaiting your stay in tranquil, private Champ d'Alcause...

Mr & Mrs Golding, Bristol, England "Had a lovely stay, beautiful area and plenty to do. Weather was also great, may possibly look for a property here to buy!"
Mr & Mrs Hourigan, Preston, England "We will have lovely memories of our stay here, not least the deer we saw in the garden (twice) and the hot air balloons floating along the Dordogne river bed before soaring up as many as five together!"
Mr & Mrs Duthie, Fraserburgh, Scotland "We had a wonderful honeymoon in this wee house. The surroundings are breathtaking and we really enjoyed taking in all the stars and sounds plus canoeing and hot air ballooning - highlights of our stay here! The hot tub was a real treat. Thank you!!"
Mr & Mrs Bull, London, England "Wow! Had such a great time here, very relaxing, beautiful surroundings, food, people and of course wine! Definitely recommend kayaking down the river - well worth a drive to St. Emillion for the wine tasting and sight seeing. Hot tub was great with all the stars but don't get freaked out by the wildlife at night."
Mr & Mrs Lee, Lismore, Australia "We arrived at this gorgeous cottage and thought we'd found something wonderful. It just got better with time, so easy to feel comfy in. Loved Beynac castle and Lascaux."
