The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Valencia Province region
Valencia-The city to visit in 2007 =================== Valencia is an exciting, friendly and welcoming city, and is the third-largest in Spain. It is the home of its most famous dish - paella and the wonderful drink Horchata - the golden drink. Refreshingly interesting and unspoilt- it has a legendary beautiful climate, a renowned museum of fine arts, the City of the Arts and Sciences and an appealing old town. With approximately 2,700 hours of sunshine per year the average temperature varies from a minimum of 8C in January to a maximum 33C in August, Valencia enjoys an excellent average temperature of 20C. This, combined with very few rainy days concentrated in a few weeks of the year at the beginning of autumn, end of December and beginning of spring, means that the people of Valencia enjoy warm sunny mornings almost every day of the year.
The major tourist attraction is the City of Arts and Sciences and is equally fascinating to young and old alike. Valencia is established on the European art circuit with galleries containing works the great masters
Nightlife & Dining Out ================= Visit ors have a wide range of bars, restaurants and clubs to keep them up at night, with most Valencian nightouts not venturing out until at mid-night. The Avenida de Aragon, the Plaza de Canovas, the area around the Plaza de Honduras and Xuquer, Jean llorens Street are some of the places where you can find bars, pubs, restaurants, movida and meet people ready to have a good time.
The outstanding dish is Paella, which originates from the area. However, you must also try the "Arroz Banda"(with fish) or "Arroz Negro"(with squid in ink).
The excellent Valencian wines usually accompany all these dishes, with white wines from the "Alto Turia" and "Serrenia" regions or reds from "Campo de Lliria".
If you love shopping the city has excellent Boutiques along with major designers, Zarah, Loewe, Adolfo Dominguez etc.
Las Fallas, March 13th to 19th ======================== Las Fallas is undoubtedly one of the most unique and crazy festivals in Spain (a country known for unique and crazy festivals). What started as a feast day for St. Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters, has evolved into a 5-day, multifaceted celebration of fire. Valencia is usually a quiet city with a population of a half-million, but the town swells to an estimated three million flame-loving revelers during Las Fallas.
Las Fallas literally means "the fires" in Valencian (a twisted provincial language somewhere between Spanish and Catalan). The focus of the fiesta is the creation and destruction of ninots--huge cardboard, wood and plaster statues--that are placed at over 350 key intersections and parks around the city today. The ninots are extremely lifelike and usually depict bawdy, satirical scenes and current events (lampooning corrupt politicians and Spanish celebrities is particularly popular). They are crafted by neighborhood organizations and take about six months to construct (and often cost upwards of US$75,000). Many ninots are several stories tall and need to be moved into position with cranes.
Valencia area Fancy a round of golf underneath a clear blue sky, or perhaps a horse ride? Maybe going to a sports complex is more your thing. Or you just fancy taking a short drive through beautiful scenery. Whatever you prefer all these activities are on your doorstep.
Betera / Virgen de la Estrella area
This region boasts quite a number of golf courses, the two closest ones being Club de Golf Escorpión in Betera and Club de Golf El Bosque, well worth a visit! The nearby equestrian centre Equitecnic is very happy to welcome you, as is La Calderona a newly opened sports centre and spa. Bétera is a small place with the advantages of a countryside town and the famous Calderona nature park is nearby. You're near the fun of the city but far from the noise and pollution at the same time. Access to Valencia is via the motorway, so it only takes 15 minutes to get to the centre.
How to get there
A wide variety of airlines, both scheduled and budget fly to Valencia airport several times a day from the UK and many other European and other cities around the world. There are many hire car companies to choose from as this is a tourist destination. Car rental is recommended.
