1299 - Bowsden Hall Cottage
About the home
This lovely, traditional stone mid-terrace can be found in the tranquil village of Bowsden, a mere three miles from Lowick. Sympathetically modernised, this cosy little house retains much of its period charm. Well-equipped and comfortably furnished with a lovely, spacious garden for outdoor dining in summer, this cottage is a fantastic place for all the family to stay whilst enjoying the wonderful setting of Northumbria. With Berwick only a fifteen-minute drive to the north, and Alnwick thirty minutes to the south, this cottage is excellently placed to enjoy the best the region has to offer, including the causeway to Holy Island – or Lindisfarne – just six miles away.

The Northern England / Northumberland region
Northumbria is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife. Covering 400 square miles, the Northumberland National Park is the least populated of England’s National Parks, much to the benefit of those visitors seeking peace and solitude. Thousands of paths and tracks weave their way through beautiful countryside, providing exhilarating fresh air and wide-open spaces for walkers and cyclists alike.
Stay a while, roam the countryside but don’t forget to explore further, because the area known as Northumbria offers much more than just the National Park. Northumbria encompasses County Durham, the Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear, as well as covering the North Pennines ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, the City of Durham and the Heritage Coastline, boasting a selection of protected golden beaches and tiny fishing villages. Northumberland’s Heritage Coast has mile upon mile of sparkling beaches, rocky coves and picturesque fishing villages. Sweeping from Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north, to Druridge Bay in the south, popular destinations along the coastline include the horseshoe-shaped sandy beach and dunes at Beadnell Bay, the bustling village of Seahouses, with boat trips from the picturesque harbour, and the kipper smokery and coastal path at Craster.
Adding to the area’s splendour is a chain of magnificent castles: Alnwick, home to the powerful Percy family and the setting for some of the Harry Potter films; spectacular, medieval Bamburgh, standing high on its rocky outcrop; the brooding ruins of Dunstanburgh and pretty Warkworth.
The Berwick-Upon-Tweed / Lowick area
Though with the Kimmerston Riding Centre, Ford Castle, Etaj estate and a great miniature railway nearby, Lowick is bound to have something for everyone to do whilst visiting the lovely countryside of Northumbria. The little town of Ford is just two miles away and is not only home to the splendour of Ford Castle, but also plays host to a variety of craft shops, whilst the surrounding area is full of opportunities for cycling and fishing. With the beautiful, historic coastline only minutes away, and Holy Island, the Cheviots and Berwick-Upon-Tweed close by, this lovely rural village is a great place from which to explore the surrounding area.

Guestbook for 1299 - Bowsden Hall Cottage
The layout of the cottage was quite quirky! (characterful) but gave a lovely sense of being able to feel comfortable and being relaxed. It is ideally situated for providing so many places of interest and beauty to visit.
Altogether a very nice base for a most enjoyable holiday.
