Lindisfarne Bay Cottages
About the home
Our three terraced cottages make a wonderful setting for a holiday for a large group of family or friends.
Each architect designed cottage is spacious and carefully laid out. There is plenty of room for everyone to have their own space, and as each bedroom has its own en suite bathroom there is maximum privacy too. We can assist with recommendations for local shopping, caterers and all the etceteras you may need. The Mill House with its large rooms lends itself perfectly to larger scale hosting. The dining room will cope with seating the guests from all the cottages. Lindisfarne Bay Cottages are independent from other buildings so you won't be overlooked or disturbed by other people (the owners live a short distance away around a bend at the end of the lane - near enough to be contacted but far enough away for you to feel entirely independent).

Further details outdoors:
Each cottage has its own outdoor area with pretty planting, garden furniture and gas barbeque. The Stables and The Byre both have a private south facing patio whilst the Mill House has its own private with views over the bay.
In addtion, there is a large shared garden to the north side of the properties - this is largely laid to lawn with ancient perimeter hedging and mature scots pines - which rustle romantically in the wind. Beyond the boundary on one side of this garden is the seashore! There are (in our view!) unsurpassable panoramic sea views sweeping around from Beal Causeway towards the north, with Holy Island and Lindisfarne Castle silhouetted across to the east and we have Bamburgh Castle silhouetted to the south. Holy Island acts as a natural breakwater against the sea so the tide laps very gently up and down twice a day. However, we can hear the waves crashing on the north side of Holy Island in bad weather.
The calm waters provide a natural haven for all kinds of birds - waders and waterfowl - all year round, but especially during the migratory months. We love the annual spectacle of thousands of geese sheltering on the waters just outside our windows. Because we are located at the bottom of the lane this really is a quiet, naturally restful spot for a holiday - heaven! We are only a 5 minute drive off the A1 though so we are easily accesible to everywhere else. The nearest shop for emergency supplies is at Beal Services 5 minutes away - it is 'open all hours' and has all the basics.
Further details
Please contact us if you would like to book two or more of the cottages. We will do our best to ensure your stay is a big success.
For groups wishing to take all three properties we are happy to make arrangements for extra chairs etc in the Mill House dining room (the tables expand to accommodate everyone). The Mill House (which is deceptively spacious) has plenty of room to absorb everyone comfortably.
If you need overspill accommodation or extra beds (we have some Aero beds available on request) again, please contact us.
At Christmas we provide a tree and decorations in each cottage.
Don't worry about hidden costs - there aren't any! Our prices are inclusive of all heating, electricity, towels, linen and final cleaning.
See our website for full booking conditions. 25% non refundable booking deposit required.
Conditions
Sorry, we don't think the properties are suitable for stag breaks. We might consider a civilised hen party - please contact us to discuss!

Enquire nowThe Northern England / Northumberland region
Lindisfarne Bay Cottages are set immediately on the water's edge overlooking Holy Island with the distinctive silhouette of Lindisfarne Castle on the horizon.
The bay is sheltered by the natural breakwater formed by Holy Island, so the tide laps gently at the foot of the garden. We are fortunate to be located within the Northumberland AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), The Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve and the corresponding Site of Special Scientific Interest. This means that when you stay with us you will almost inevitably see some kind of wonderful birdlife on the waters just outside the cottages.
In this stunning location, you will find unrivalled bird-watching opportunities, especially during the migratory season. Joggers will enjoy the quiet country lanes and keen cyclists will appreciate that access to the Coast and Castles Cycle Way is very near. At night, the lack of light pollution makes for perfect star gazing.
If you haven't visited this part of the world before, you will be pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of attractions available within easy driving distance. Visit the wildernesses of the Northumberland National Park, or the beautiful long white beaches all along the coast.
For those who like a city fix during their holidays, Edinburgh is 90 minutes north, and Newcastle is a 60 minute drive to the south.
The Berwick-Upon-Tweed / Fenwick area
At the end of a lane, positioned midway between Berwick-upon-Tweed and Bamburgh directly on Northumberland's Heritage Coast, our luxury self-catering holiday cottages are well located for a holiday exploring the ancient Kingdom of Northumbria.
Just a few minutes drive from the cottages (or a walk away for keen walkers) is BEAL CAUSEWAY linking the mainland to Holy Island. This is always an exhilarating trip and once on the island you can explore the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory (English Heritage) or visit iconic Lindisfarne Castle (National Trust). There's a pretty harbour and lovely walks all around the shores (including sandy beaches). In the village itself there is of course a good choice of cafes, pubs and little shops to delay your day further...
A 15 minute drive to the south (passing beautiful unspoilt Budle Bay on the way - a top spot for birdwatchers) will bring you to glorious BAMBURGH with its stunningly placed fortified castle and famous white beach - perfect for a picnic. Here you will find shops (including a great butcher's), pubs, restaurants, playground, teashops and the Grace Darling Museum.
An absolute must in season (Spring-October,) is a trip to SEAHOUSES half an hour away, for an unforgettable boat trip to the FARNE ISLANDS. We have to mention that the trips are subject to calm seas, if it gets choppy they are likely to be cancelled. Assuming the sea is on your side, you are guaranteed close sightings of the huge seal colonies, puffins, terns, kittiwakes, eider ducks, guillemots and more. There are various trips available, some of which include alighting on the islands and stepping through the nesting sites on a boardwalk. Very lucky guests might even see minke whales and porpoises.
We are just a short drive from the A1, linking EDINBURGH and the Scottish Borders in the north with NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE in the south. A day in Edinburgh is a fantastic experience (90 minutes by car, also an easy train journey from Berwick). Lively Newcastle is an hour's drive away, and is also accesible by train from Berwick. It has the added attractions of the Sage Gateshead and the Baltic Contemporary Art Gallery.
Easy access puts all of the other attractions of Northumberland within reach for day-trips, including ALNWICK Castle (where scenes from Harry Potter were shot) , Alnwick Garden (less than half an hour away) and Chillingham Castle with its unique herd of wild cattle (the castle is idiosyncratically restored and includes a pretty authentic torture chamber - well worth a visit) . There's also CRAGSIDE (National Trust) , and CRASTER - a pretty, busy harbour where you can buy fantastic Craster kippers at Robsons Smokehouse and great fresh crab sandwiches at the Jolly Fisherman pub. From here you can enjoy a dramatic, yet easy walk along low cliffs to DUNSTANBURGH CASTLE (there is no road to the medieval castle ruins, just the pathway hugging the low cliffs along the seashore).
ALNMOUTH (30-40 minutes away) is beautifully set on the headland where the River Aln meets the sea - enjoy a great Sunday lunch at the Red Lion Inn then take a walk along the links, beach, river or round the village. WARKWORTH (45 minutes away), on the lovely River Coquet has rowing boats for hire, idyllic riverside walks and a pretty village to explore, plus an English Heritage Castle.
Even Durham (90 minutes away) with its hauntingly beautiful, ancient cathedral is within striking distance.
Inland, away from the coast, visitors will enjoy the grandeur and wildernesses of the Northumberland National Park which include vast expanses of moorlands and crags (including the Cheviot hills). You can explore Northumbria's Roman past at Housesteads Roman Fort, Vindolanda Roman Fort and Museum, and, of course along Hadrian's Wall itself - keen walkers will be spoilt for choice.
Within a short drive from us you can find horse riding stables, golf, gliding, wind surfing beaches and many other attractions. See 'activities' on the links section of our website for more details.
Whatever your interests, we are confident that Northumberland will surpass your expectations, and we have the accommodation to match!

Our extended family booked the Millhouse and The Byre for a long weekend to celebrate a 40th birthday. After searching for months for a suitable place to stay, we came across these little gems. The pictures on the website (although fantastic) do not do these cottages justice. Immaculately presented and furnished to the highest standard with every last detail thought of. The quirky features and little touches such as the welcome note with home made cake and wine all assisted in making this a very special weekend indeed. The views from the cottages are really breathtaking and must be seen to be believed. My favourite place was in the conservatory watching the sun go down with a glass of wine!! The whole family were easily accommodated around the huge table in the Millhouse for our family party meal. Everything you could possible need was there. Very well thought through. We had the best time and would love to return. 10 out of 10, 5 stars etc etc. Can't praise highly enough!! Thanks to Pauline for the warmest welcome. ;-) |
