About the home

This immaculate chalet has gorgeous mountain views from 2 balconies where you can savour the delights of the local patisserie in glorious sunshine. During summer there are cows grazing in the fields and mountains surrounding the chalet . You can hear the gentle chime of their bells and the stream running down the valley There are 17 marked walks in the area with suitability for most levels. Children like to walk up to where the farm animals are and drink water from the old stone trough. Not too far away you can fill up your empty water bottles with Evian mineral water for free.

Bernex is a traditional alpine village which is not familiar to most British people yet popular with French and Swiss skiers. Choose to ski in Bernex or Thollon les Memises (15 mins drive) where you have the most spectacular views of Lake Geneva.The Portes du Soleil (the largest ski area in Europe) is only 20 mins drive away.

Bernex ski area has English speaking ski instructors, skiing to suit all levels, 21 snow cannons, a large car park and ski storage facilities at the lift base. We have 3 sledges available for your use and next to the ski lift there is a dedicated sledge run with soft crash barriers.

There are three double bedrooms. Bedroom 1 has a double bed, bedroom 2 has a single bed and a child's bed, bedroom 3 has 2 single beds and bedroom 4 is a large, spacious mezzanine area with a double sofa bed and stunning views from the top balcony.

W hite bathroom with shower attachment . Separate WC. The lounge has a sofa and two arm chairs which is overlooked by the fourth bedroom which is a mezzanine area. UK free to air channels via satellite receiver including BBC1, BBC2, ITV, CBeebies, Sky News etc.

First floor:
Bed 3 and the mezzanine area . There is a shower room with WC .The stairs are quite steep so 2 stair gates are available at the chalet. There is also a toddler booster seat available.

The garage is used as our ski /boot storage room . There are children's roller skates which you may use.

Further details outdoors:
There is a small balcony on the upstairs level,this provides a great view of the Bernex summer fireworks or of a thunder and lightening storm.
The second balcony has a table and chairs for 6 people and in Winter you can get the sun here from 9.30 until 4.30. It is nice to sit out with a coffee or hot chocolate and watch the skiers on the mountain opposite.
There is parking for 2 cars on the drive. We have managed to get 4 cars on at Christmas. Snow clearance is available at 25 euros per clearance.
Babysitting is available, ask at the tourist office.
It is compulsory to have snow chains available for your use in Winter. If they are not on your car wheels then they need to be in your car. When hiring a car at the airport, ensure you have winter tyres on your car.
Salt ( for clearing snow) can be bought at the local supermarket. There is a snow shovel in the garage. The local council provide a good snow clearance service and will grit the road outside the chalet about 8 am every morning. Be prepared to dig snow off the drive and to actually use your snow chains. I have never needed to use chains when at the chalet but I do know people who needed to use them.

Further details

A deposit of £200 is required on booking and the balance due 6 weeks prior to travel.
Don't forget your snow chains/winter tyres in the snow season.
Snow clearance is available at 25 euros.
Please let us know if you will require linen change or a chalet clean when you leave.
The hot water tank takes ages to warm up so there will not be enough hot water for a bath on the first night unless the tank was warmed up the night before (if the chalet was rented up until the day you arrive then the tank will be warm).If you are morning shower person then this will not be an issue for you. Also, if all the hot water is used in the morning, you will need to switch the water switch from "auto "to " 1" if you need an evening bath.

Bedroom 3. twin beds

The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region

Rhone/alps borders Switzerland and has 3 of the largest lakes in France.It has 60 golf courses and has hosted the winter olympics three times.

Evian is a famous thermal spa resort while Chamonix and mt Blanc can be visited .Lake Annecy is worth a visit as well as the medieval lakeside village of Yvoire.

For tourist web sites see www.infoleman.org. Montreux has a christmas market www.montreuxnoel.ch.
Bernex has its own tourism office www.ot-bernex.fr. Here you can book guided walks ,the tennis courts and other sporting activities in the village.

Travel into Switzerland and you can visit the outdoor thermal spa at Lavey Les Bains,the Swiss railway parc or take a train ride to the chocolate factory in Broc

The Bernex area

In winter Bernex is a small ski resort which is popular with French people. You can combine the Bernex lift pass with the water park at Amphion and/or the ski lifts at Thllon les Memises.Here you can ski and have fantastic lake views. The skiing at bernex is up to 1900 m and you can see mount blanc from one of the ski runs.
There are 2 mountain restaurants at Bernex where you can sit see when your children have finished their ski school.There are 3 ski hire shops in the village.

If you want to acces the Portes du Soleil you can drive to Abondance or La Chapelle which is approx 25 mins away.
At Morzine there is ice skating and a summer luge.Chatel is not far away and has a lake, an outdoor pool and in summer has a carnival with floats.

Bernex has a children's park ,2 tennis courts and pony trekking, hang gliding and fishing.(Permits available from the tourist office.)

There is a small supermarket in Bernex or 7 minutes further is a large supermarket. Bernex has a newsagent, a bakery, a gift shop ,a cheese and wine shop ,a distillery and some estate agents.There is a large church at Bernex which is next door to the cinema.

There are a number of restaurants in Bernex and our favourite has a log fire in winter whilst in summer you can sit outside next to the stream running through the garden. The food is typical to the area serving raclette and other things you can't find in your dictionary.

In Summer there are plenty of places to walk,climb or go mountain biking.

The mountain restaurants are open in summer and you can drive up where skiers were skiing in winter and see the cows wandering around with their cow bells.

In summer Bernex has a festival and firework display. An outdoor food market is held once a week outside the church.

About 10 mins from the house in Beunaz there is a bowling alley /pizza place which has live music one evening a week. Also at Beunaz is a leisure lake with a monkey run which drops into the lake.

At Evian you can visit the casino and eat at one of its 5 restaurants. Evian also has a masters golf course and mini golf. The promenade is good for cycling,skating or walking.Evian also has a large open air swimming pool.In summer there are fountains for the children to play in.

The beach at amphion is a pebble beach and you can swim in the clear lake water.A children's playground and a water park are close by. There is a larger water park at Bouveret 40 mins away in Switzerland.

Cleaning is payable locally at 100 euros.This includes a linen change. Charge for electricity( approx 75 euros per week.meter readings are taken by the estate agent). Cleaning without a change of linen is 30 euros for 2 hours cleaning.

Keys can be collected from C.I.L estate agents in Bernex between 15.00 and 18.00 h and the agent will accompany you to the chalet.
