Our aim is for you to completely relax here so we have equipped each gite with everything you need to feel totally at home during your family holiday.
The gardens are safe and child friendly with a large lawned area for children and toddlers to roam freely and to play on the swings, slide or build châteaux in the sandpit. The gites have 3 bedrooms - a king, a double and a twin so we can accommodate 6 adults and 2 babies. There is a large family bathroom with WC. Downstairs there is a shower room with WC. Each gite has its own gravelled, private garden with teak dining furniture, sun loungers and a barbecue. The gites are joined but do not overlook each other and offer total privacy.

|Further details outdoors|
The large, walled gardens offer an extremely safe, enclosed area for playing, with fruit trees affording shade from the sun. There are swings, slide, small trampoline and trikes. Young children can build their own château in the sandpit or potter about happily trying to catch Twiglet the cat! Older ones may like badminton or trying their hand at a game of boules. There is plenty of room for a game of football with Dad.
The heated swimming pool has a Roman end with steps making it ideal for all ages. It is fenced for total safety with child proof gate and is surrounded by flowering shrubs. The decked area has parasols and teak steamer chairs with plump cushions. Arm yourself with a good book, iPod or just your own thoughts and feel the stress melt away.
For the nocturnal, our night skies are incredibly clear and offer fantastic stargazing opportunities.
We have lived in France for 10 years and our children have grown up here enjoying the freedom of rural life. Over the years we have gathered lots of local knowledge and can recommend places to explore and restaurants from family friendly to gourmet dining.
We work continually to keep the gites and gardens ship shape but are always happy to stop and chat to our guests and get to know them. Our children are always on the lookout for new playmates too!
If you are considering buying a property in France we will gladly share our experiences (good and bad!) over a glass of wine.
Our passion for antique and vintage living has led us to create our online boutique Chateau Chic which sells original French furniture and accessories. Stock is available to purchase on site with a guest discount

When the heat is on head to The Aquarium to cool off. This water wonderland is a deservedly very popular attraction. Magical, mystical and ultra modern, but go early! When you’ve exhausted the shops and the children, take time out to relax at the small beach. . The park and mini zoo with black swans and peacocks are just a stone’s throw away. Sip a coffee or chilled beer at ‘ La Brasserie de la Plage’ whilst overlooking the sea. Parfait!
Beaches - Spotless, sandy and safe. If the beach is your thing then the Atlantic coast is well equipped to satisfy with shallow gentle shores. There is a wealth of golden beaches many uncrowded even in high season. Our favourites include Chatelaillon- Plage and Fouras, famous for its oyster beds. Cognac - Steeped in history on the banks of the Charente, Cognac revolves around cognac, the double-distilled spirit that is the driving force of this prosperous town's economy. Discover the celebrated ‘eau de vie’ by taking a guided tour of one of the famous Cognac houses where you can sample the finest oak aged blends. Included in the Hennessey tour is a boat trip across the river and Remy Martin includes a train ride for children. Allow 2 hours for tours.
St Savinien - Children will adore taking the helm of one of the miniature electric boats. Adults secretly enjoy this too! Afternoons only April—September.
Marais Poitevin - Crisscrossed by an elaborate system of canals, the ‘Venise Verte’ or ‘Green Venice’ is a National Park and a haven for wildlife and marsh birds. Take a boat trip (guided or not) from Coulon and experience the tranquillity of this natural maze.
Saintes - Plenty of culture for the beach weary. Built on the banks of the Charente and rich in architecture this Gallo- Roman town is home to numerous museums and the impressive amphitheatre dating from 40 A.D. The Arch of Germanicus was once the town’s gateway and still dominates the riverside views. Shop, lunch or take a calming boat trip along the river.
The Islands - Beautiful yet unpretentious. Brimming with charm, Ile de Ré is picture postcard where the beaches are sandy soft and the island’s salt marshes deliver the ‘Fleur de Sel’ or ‘white gold‘ as it is known locally. A culinary find for any discerning cook. St. Martin, the largest town is a lively hub for food, nightlife and shopping. Artisanal ice creams are hard to resist.
Ile d’Oleron also offers exceptional beaches on the ‘Cote Sauvage’ where you can picnic amongst the pine forests and sand dunes or just browse the shops in the narrow lanes.
Both islands are accessible by car or boat but we never tire of the journey across the 3km bridge despite the toll. Cycling is also an excellent way to explore these self-contained islands.
La Palmyre Zoo - Get up close and personal with the giraffes (and other zoo animals). This is no ordinary zoo and will not disappoint. An award winning breeding zoo with 1600 animals, set in 14 hectares. Polar bears, elephants - all the usuals plus a reptile house, tropical greenhouse and seal show. Stunning beaches on the doorstep make this a full day out.
Bordeaux - Now officially a World Heritage site, Bordeaux is rich in architecture and a cultural and historic centre with shops to rival any major city.
An internationally renowned wine capital, the wine growing regions of Margaux, Pommerol, St. Emilion and Pauillac in the surrounding area produce some of the finest red wines in the world.

"Perfect Hosts and excellent facilities for young children"
Would definately recommend this to anyone travelling with young children Accommodation was of a very good standard with lost of nice touches like toys and books for children The grounds were a haven for toddlers providing enclosed space for ball games and a sandpit that kept them amused for hours Location meant we often had a drive to get to the host of different attactions in the region but it was never more than an hour and out of all the options my boys enjoyed the nature reserve only 20 minutes away best of all

"What a perfect trip"
I visited Le Cognassier with my partner and 20 month old daughter last week and we had an absolutely wonderful time. The gite was wonderful - so nicely decorated and well presented and it had everything we could have wanted (including a lot of lovely antiques we would have liked to have brought home!). From kitchen utensils and a cafetiere to an abundance of leaflets on the best things to do. We were welcomed very warmly by our lovely hosts Sue and SImon who went to an extra effort to get the pool as warm as humanly possible for us! A bath-like 29c by the end of our trip. They were welcoming, helpful and knowledgable about the local area and were so happy to help if we needed them. My 20 month old daughter was actually quite ill while we were there and they offered to call the emergency doctor in the middle of the night if we needed it. They were the perfect balance of inviting and reassuring to their guests without being in your face or intrusive. In fact we were very dissapointed to have missed out on having drinks with them because of my daughters sickness!! The best thing about the stay were the facilities for my daughter. Sue and Simon provided a very large selection of toys, books and games for all ages but not only that - there were children's booster seats, potties, cutlery, plates, cups... even a hooded towel and changing mat. It really did make the whole trip so hassle free and ensured that Violet had fun and we had some peace and quiet while she played! She's still talking about her 'baby' (a doll!) now! Access to Cbeebies also made her virus pass as painlessly as possible! The gite was in a great location too - we had day trips out to Cognac and La Rochelle on the cloudier days. The aquarium at La Rochelle was the best we have ever been to and Cognac was a very pretty city with a lovely park with children's play areas and lots of pretty gardens to walk around. All in all we had a super holiday at a fantastic price - it really was everything we could have asked for and we will be returning and highly recommending! Thanks Sue and Simon and see you soon! "Relaxing beautiful gite and surroundings excellent hospitality"
The gite is beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable. It has everything! Beds very comfy and gite spotlessly clean. Idyllic surroundings - spent lots of time lazing around in garden or by pool while childrn played in orchard and pool. Surrounding countryside peaceful and beautiful. We did some sightseeing but enjoyed relaxing at the property the most. Sue and Simon are excellent hosts - nothing is too much trouble and great to chat with over a glass of wine. Lucy and Harry were really welcoming too - this is our 2nd visit and our children were greeted as old friends! We will definately return again in the future.

"Truly child-friendly and a pleasure for parents to stay in!"
We stayed here as a family of five (children aged 4, 2, 10 months) at the end of May 2011. I've searched long and hard for truly child-friendly gites in France, which are also a treat for parents to stay in. Le Cognassier was perfect! The gite was beautifully furnished and spotless with its own private garden which meant we could sit and watch the children play in the gardens whilst relaxing on our sun loungers. The gardens are large and safe and the children loved meeting their friends from "next door" at the swings. The pool area is secured all round and the pool itself has steps down into it, which is great for small children. Sue, Simon, Lucy and Harry made us feel very welcome. The location of these gites is great for days or half days out - 45 mins to La Rochelle and lovely beaches, just an hour to ile de Re where we hired biked with trailers and went exploring. There are also many pretty towns and villages to visit locally. A winning combination of delightful accommodation, great garden and pool, and a good location.

We have just returned from our sixth consecutive holiday at the Paine family's gite in Tout Y Faut and it was as blissful as ever. It's perfect for our extended-family holiday - huge enclosed garden, secure pool and roomy, beautifully appointed accommodation. The Paines are lovely hosts, always there when you need them and dedicated to making your holiday as relaxing as possible. We have already booked for our 2012 stay.

"Beautiful gite, great for young kids and very welcoming"
We had a great holiday here, the gites are beautifully done out in french antique furniture and a lot of care has gone into making them a very comfortable place to stay. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with everything one needs. The garden is huge and our kids (5, 3 and 7 months) had a lot of fun running around in it, on the play equipment and with the garden toys that they have there for your use. Each gite had a smaller private outside area which was really nice . The pool is a good size and secure for keeping little ones out. Sue and Simon provide everything you need if you are travelling with a baby including a proper cot which is such a bonus and baby/kids toy. Sue and Simon and their children were great hosts and made us feel very welcome.

"A very relaxed and friendly atmosphere."
We have had 2 holidays and stayed in both Gites. Travelling with young children can be stressful but Sue and Simon make it much easier. The gites have everything you need for young children. ( English TV channels, highchairs, stairgates etc). There is a lovely relaxed atmosphere about this place and we have always felt at home there.
