The Brandenburg/Berlin region

Brandenburg Holiday Destination extends within a radius of about 100 km around Berlin metropolis. It is excellently integrated into the European transport network – visitors can choose to arrive by overland route, by air or by water according to their requirements.

We are pleased that you are interested in our region around the German capital. We are not surprised by this as you get everything in one here: the vibrant Berlin metropolis, the Potsdam State Capital – the former centre of Prussia with its castles and gardens (which are part of UNESCO's world cultural heritage) – as well as the idyllic Mark Brandenburg countryside with its more than 3,000 lakes and 30,000 km of watercourses (and thus Europe's most extensive landscape of rivers and lakes). On our home page, you can obtain information and services for your holiday in the Brandenburg Holiday Destination. Among other things, we introduce you to the highlights of the state, make suggestions to you regarding your tours from a day trip to a one-week round trip through the entire state and present you with tips regarding the event highlights to come.

The winter season is once again approaching and with it the opening of traditional Christmas markets all over Brandenburg. There are lots of markets to wander round and enjoy. They'll surprise you with their magic, charm, regional delicacies, and well-stocked stalls selling arts and crafts.

Berlin

The Flak tower of Humboldthain is one of the 3 towers on Berlin, built during the WWII by order of Hitler to defend the city after 1940.

It has been used also civilian shelter, with room for 10,000 civilians, and even a hospital ward, inside.

According to the end of the war, the tower was partially demolished; as most of these huge concrete structures, it has not been possible to fully demolish them (the interior walls can be of 3,5-4 meters).

Today the tower is fully inside the Humboldthain Park and one side of the tower has been filled with debris from the WWII collapsed buildings and is now a hill to access the highest point of the tower.

The interior can be visited (infos: Berlin Unterwelten)
