Local facilities include a 24 hour supermarket only 100 meters away, world-class shopping in Stegltiz, and lovely recreation in nearby parks and forests.
|Further details outdoors|
Parking in the car-park belonging to the building is only for use of the tenants who pay rent for a parking space. Ample free parking space is available along the street.
The garden belonging to the building is available for the use of everyone.
The nearby Steglitz Stadtpark is a delightful park encompassing beautiful walks, numerous ponds, a children's play area, and a bandstand that has occasional free concerts.
There are also pleasant walks along the banks of the Teltow Canal towards Lichterfelde and Zehlendorf.
Local shops provide all you might need for a well-catered for stay (there is a 24/7 supermarket only 100 metres away!), and the Schlossstrasse in Steglitz is one of the best shopping areas in all Berlin, with fantastic shops and malls.
All of the numerous sights of Berlin (whether historic, cultural, artistic, economic) are easily accessible by public transport - bus, S-Bahn trains, and the Underground.
The Brandenburg/Berlin region
Berlin is famous for many things, too numerous to mention individually, but it is safe to say it is a fantastic cosmopolitan city with an exraordinary past, and a thrilling vibrant present, worthy of many a visit!
Of course, there is all the history to explore, from the Imperial splendour of the Kaisers' time, through the modernity of Bauhaus design and Weimar Germany, the chilling remains of the Nazi time, the Cold War period of the former East Berlin, and the rapid and thorough re-invention of the City since the Fall of the Wall in 1989. There can be few cities in the world where it's history is so strikingly obvious, nor that deserve such exploration.
The cultural importance of the city is also fabulous, with some of the best museums in Europe clustered on the Museum Island in Mitte. But that is only a small number of the myriad museums that one can visit, that cater to practically every subject you could be interested in!!
Artistic Berlin is vibrant and the city has become a recognised centre for cutting edge art, not only of the pictorial variety, but music, theatre, dance all art forms are here, some very challenging and demanding, others more mainstream and accessible.
Cafe Society is also an important part of Berlin life, and there are so many places where one can go to experience the feel of this buzzing city. There are many lively shopping areas, from the local Schlossstrasse to the famous Kurfurstendamm, to the wealthiest areas like Friedrichstrasse in Mitte, home to the high-end International brands flagship stores. But there are also the wonderful, independent, often very funky stores in streets like Auguststrasse and some of the most fantastic flea-markets you could wish for.
Entertainment is on offer in a bewildering range of styles, from 'proper' theatre, world-class opera and ballet to the anarchy of the Mauerpark weekly 'Bear-Pit' Karaoke, a hugely entertaining open-air amphitheatre on the site of the former Death Strip, where all sorts of fearless singers (and sundry oddballs) stand up to sing, and brave the pitiless heckling or wild applause of the crowd!
There is a vast amount of music on offer, from heaviest rock, to the world famous Berlin Philharmonic. Whatever your taste you will find something to enjoy. And of course, the nightlife of Berlin's famous and infamous clubs draws people from all corners of the planet, and from all walks of life. Whatever you fancy, your fancy can be sated...
Lankwitz is a part of Steglitz-Zehlendorf, which is a mostly residential borough in south-west Berlin. The many large villas, old buildings, cobbled streets and mature leafy trees give the streetscape an air of solidity and permanence. Lankwitz is pretty quiet, and very safe. It has a mostly middle class population, and there is no vibe of anything negative or threatening - but Berlin as a whole seems to me (from many years of experience) to be a very unthreatening city, and even travelling on public transport in the middle of the night (trains run all night at the weekends, and most of the night during the week) there is seldom - if ever - any violence or other problems. Not what one could easily, or honestly, say about cities in England nowadays.
Berlin has masses to offer, and really cannot be discovered in only a few days. But if like me, you come to visit, interested and curious, you may find those first few days become the start of a life-long relationship with a fascinating, inspiring, thrilling and - in my eyes at least - very beautiful city.
The Free University is in the borough of Steglitz-Zehlndorf, as are the world-famous Botanic Gardens, and one of the best shopping streets in the whole of Berlin, the Schlossstrasse in Steglitz. And with the many lakes, rivers, parks and deep forests located within the city itself, this is a very green place to be. The juxtaposition of such a green landscape cheek-by-jowl with the vibrancy of the city gives Berlin a unique atmosphere, and 'ticks all the boxes' - whatever you want, Berlin has it!
Close by, less than half an hour away by car, is the old imperial city of Potsdam, a major tourist attraction in itself, and a UNESCO World heritage site. Definitely a place to visit.

"Great communication, nice clean and quiet apartment"
I stayed in the apartment from May 1 to May 15. I loved my stay in Berlin.
From the beginning I had great communication with Aidan regarding directions and activities to do in Berlin. Nicole met me on arrival and was already waiting in the apartment which was great because I was early.
The area is nice and I felt safe at night in this part of the city. The apartment was clean, quiet and bright when I arrived. The bed was nice and comfy so I had a great sleep every night. It was great to have spare towels, sheets etc. The washing machine was easy to use without needing instructions. The kitchen was well equipped and extras like glad wrap and cleaning products.
It was a nice touch to include breakfast and a bottle of wine!
It was fun going to the Reichelt supermarket which is just down the road. It's the best supermarket.
The bus is just out the front and there is a train about 10 mins walk but I did get caught out a few times on the weekend when I had to be in the city at a certain time so You need to plan with the weekend timetable.
Everything was great.

"A fabulous apartment and host"
We have stayed in some lovely apartments throughout Europe and this one ranks above most. Spotlessly clean, modern and bright, with everything you could possibly need for your stay. Aidan has thought of everything. The welcome pack was second to none, with bread, eggs, milk, coffee and chilled wine - to name but a few! We have recommended this apartment to all our family and friends and when we go back to Berlin will look no further than this. Thank you Aidan, and Nicole, for everything. I cannot rate you highly enough.
