Sigoules is a small and friendly village only 15 mins drive from Bergerac airport. The house is 2 mins away from the boulangerie selling delicious baguettes and croissants etc, and the newly refurbished bar/restaurant now called the Code Bar is also 2 mins from the house. Here the very friendly owner David continues the great 5 course lunches each weekday and is now open late into the night during the summer months. There is also the brilliant and friendly pizzeria Chepaou for eat in and take aways, a supermarket, bank, post office, butchers & charcuterie, pharmacy, doctors and dentists! 10 mins walk away is a lovely lake where paddle boats and canoes can be hired. There is table tennis, tennis and other activities and a good bar restaurant with a campsite and swimming for campers. The beautiful countryside around Sigoules is covered in vines with lots of farms offering wine tasting. There are so many attractive bastide towns around Sigoules all with market days which make enjoyable days out. Bergerac and Ste Foy La Grande are both about 16 kilometres away and Eymet and Duras are the nearest smaller bastide towns and Issigeac around 20 mins drive is a wonderful medieval town. Spectacular and dramatic chateaux are plentiful along the Dordogne river.

The Aquitaine/Dordogne region

The weather in the Dordogne is gorgeous! hot during summer months often around 30c, warm in spring and autumn and in winter generally it is bright and crisp! The immediate countryside is covered in vines on gently rolling hills and there are many beautiful bastide towns built during the 100 year war in the 14th century. Around 3/4 hours drive east the landscape suddenly changes and becomes quite rocky and mountanous, this area is brilliant for days out visiting all the famous caves and historic chateaux

Bergerac

All the local Bastide towns have wonderful daytime and evening markets. The day markets are great for buying locally grown fruit and veg and enjoying a few glasses of local wine in the cafes. Evening markets offer a wide range of local cuisine and everyone eats altogether al fresco!

There are so many farms where the delicious wines of the area can be tasted ....white, rose, red and the lovely desert wine Monbazillac.

The lake with all its attractions make for wonderful lazy days and the restaurants in the village are a must!
