The cottage has recently been renovated to the highest standards whilst retaining much of its character, such as exposed beams, large fire place and traditional kitchen with wood burning stove. The cottage is on 4 levels. The front door leads to a hall, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom on the middle level. Up a few stairs are a further two bedrooms each with en suite bath/shower rooms. Down from the hall is a sitting/dining room with a large open fire place and doors leading on to the outside mezzanine deck. On the lowest level there is a further bedroom with en-suite shower and a laundry room with washing machine.There is air conditioning which also heats in winter for the living area and the two upstairs bedrooms.

Doors from the lowest level open to a terrace, swimming pool and open grass area to the front. The front door leads out to an enclosed courtyard which is very safe for children. The kitchen window opens onto this courtyard.

The television has all British freeview channels.

The Aquitaine/Dordogne region

The county of Périgord dates back to when the area was inhabited by the Gauls. It was originally home to four tribes, the name for "four tribes" in the Gaulish language was "Petrocore". The area eventually became known as the county of Le Périgord and its inhabitants became known as the Périgordins (or Périgourdins). There are four Périgords in the Dordogne: the "Périgord Vert" (Green Périgord) with its main town of Nontron, consists of verdant valleys in a region crossed by many rivers and streams; the "Périgord Blanc" (White Périgord) situated around the department's capital of Périgueux, is a region of limestone plateaux, wide valleys and meadows; the "Périgord Pourpre" (Purple Périgord) with its capital of Bergerac, is a wine region; and the "Périgord Noir" (Black Périgord) surrounding the administrative center of Sarlat, overlooks the valleys of the Vézère and the Dordogne, where the woods of oak and pine give it its name.

Bergerac

Wine: Maison au Coin is in the heart of the South West France wine growing countryside, with Bergerac to the North and East and Bordeaux to the West. Many local growers offer free tasting and direct sales. The famous wine growing region of St Emilion is only 45 min drive away.

History: The hill at Puyguilhem is of significant historical interest. The site of the château on the hill (open on some weekends of the year) was taken by the English in 1265 when the fortifications were built. The current château is of varying age up to the 19th century. Siege balls and other relics from the war torn history of the site can be seen near the cottage.

"Peace amongst the vines"

We were looking for a total escape from the rat race - by goodness, we found it!

A super, sympathetically restored gem in some of the most peaceful and beautiful countryside in rural France. We wanted for nothing in the property, a cosy French farmhouse that has retained its charm yet with all the mod-cons and natural light of a modern home.

The terrace is perfect for sundowners, overlooking the local vineyards with only birds, cattle and frogs going about their business to disturb the peace. The open fire provides a cosy backdrop for enjoying a bottle of the local red on the overcast days.

The property is well placed for exploring the southern Dordogne, including Bergerac, famous vineyards and local country markets in the local towns and villages. The village of Puyguilhem is surrounded by numerous trails and lanes for walking and cycling with rivers and lakes for watersports nearby. A visit to the local vineyard, Les Brandeaux, about half a mile from the house, is particularly recommended; their 2011 Bergerac is not to be missed!

Overall, a great house in a super location and thoroughly recommended for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful part of France.

"Idyllic location, fantastic property"

Where do I start....from the moment we reserved this accommodation I knew that we would be well looked after. The owner/manager couldn't have been more helpful. He made me feel confident about the letting and gave me loads of detail on the area. The house is easy to find with the help of the directions we were given. When we got there, we were surprised to find that there was a car for our own use which was a huge bonus! This gave us easy access to all the local attractions and of course shops for all the 3 euro wine we drank. The property itself is amazing. A generous living room with huge open fire, and an endless supply of fire wood. Easily seating up to 10 people or more if required!! The kitchen is rustic and we spent so much of our time in here as it made for a cosy little sociable space. The bedrooms are all second to none. Modern, comfortable, en suite and with great views. There is a fantastic terrace off the living room which has ample space for a BBQ and seating. There is a pool, though we came in winter so we didn't get to make use of it.
I cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough. I will definitely return next year for a short break.

"Peaceful, picturesque location & comfortable house. But caution!"

The best thing about this house is the location and beautiful views. The house has been partially refurbished and the bedrooms (particularly the two main upstairs bedrooms) and bathrooms are equipped… More

I'm afraid this is a little unfair and almost all of the comments we have received from our other guests this summer have been positive.

When we were notified of wasps around the pool we had a pest controller on site within 24 hours to destroy the nest.

Most visitors appreciate the authentic French style of kitchen and living area and so we have aimed to maintain some of these features whilst ensuring modern facilities. The downstairs room opens out on to the pool terrace and is bright when all of the shutters are opened, and it is internally lit very well.

Most of the patio furniture is new and is replaced when required.

Unfortunately we had some losses and breakages from guests over the summer so we had to investigate in order to resolve the issues!

We welcome all feedback and for our first summer of lettings we had had an overwhelmingly positive response and are undertaking further improvements for 2014.

"Relaxing and beautiful"

We were a group of two families and between us we have 4 children under four years old, we had the most wonderful stay. The house, location and views were so beautiful. There are a lot of stairs in the house, but it did not seem to be a problem. The 4th room is very small and more like an office, but the kids did not care one bit. There is not a lot to do in the area, unless you want to lie in the sun and visit vin yards - neither of which works with small children, but you know what, that was what was so lovely about the place! Each day we either ate lunch out at a local bastide town (all of which are so pretty) or we took a picnic to the edge of the lake next to St Sulpice d'Eymet. This then meant that we did not have to cook in the evenings and so us girls had a holiday too! Anyway, when you can have French bread, local cheese and fab wine for £2.50 a bottle (when bought as a bag in box), tomato and strawberries from the local markets and a lettuce from a friendly neighbours garden - what more could you want?!

"Maison au Coin is a superbly renovated, traditional French house"

Maison au Coin is a superbly renovated, traditional French house. It is situated in a small, hill top village called Puyguilhem, which is about 7km from the nearest town with supermarket, Sigulès. The new bathrooms are all finished to a very high spec and all beds are large and very comfortable. Puyguilhem is very quiet and peaceful. The views from the house are amazing and if you are interested in bird-watching, there are plenty to see. We happily recommend the Maison au Coin to anyone looking for a truly relaxing holiday. Fantastic!
