The Aquitaine/Dordogne region

It is said that Dordogne is the land of a thousand and one castles. The Bergerac area is no exception and offers a wide variety of historical sites to discover or rediscover. Come and marvel at the jewels of Medieval and Renaissance architecture that time has preserved for you in Bergerac. Historical monuments, cloisters and caves— the Bergerac region is a sightseer’s delight. There is something to surprise you at every turn.


Bergerac is a lovely town which offers all the amenities. The old town has wonderful timber buildings, narrow streets and a statue of Cyrano de Bergerac. You can embark on a barge tour on the river Dordogne, at the Maison du Vin sample the sumptuous local wines and the adjacent cloister holds free evening concerts in the summer months. Saturday and Wednesdays are market days in Bergerac. You will find seasonal local produces such as strawberries, honey, vegetables, walnuts, truffles, free range meats and chicken and lovely fresh baked breads in abundant.

In July and August , the 'night markets' in various villages are a great favourite of the locals and tourists alike where one could enjoy the delights of the local cuisine outdoors in the warm summer evenings with music and sometimes dance and often end with fire works towards midnight.

It is an ideal place to discover and taste Bergerac' wines, Pecharmant & Monbazillac, the vineyards are just a short drive from the house. Other famous châteaux in St Emilion, Pomerol and Bordeaux are also within easy reach.

The area has many restaurants offering local gastronomy with such mouth watering cuisine like confit de canard and foie gras.

"An oasis in the centre of Bergerac"

Beautifully renovated property 5 min walk from the centre of the old town. Everything in pristine condition including the lovely courtyard garden with hot tub. Would definitely stay there again if visiting the same location. Owners extremely accommodating over our late arrival time and early departure.

"Great Location, Modern Interior, Easy Place to Live"

This is a two bedroom row house built from two smaller houses on a narrow street of row houses just outside the central city area of Bergerac. This is a fantastic location because you are a few minutes walk to the center of town (and lots of places to eat), two minutes from a terrific bakery that is open early in the morning, 5 minutes walk from the train station, and it is easy to exit via car to drive any direction. This is as near perfect as you can get for a center city location.

The building was originally two units side by side, but by combining it they made a very nice open modern house. On the lower floor are a laundry area, a big kitchen, living room and dinning area as well as a powder room. It all opens on to an all glass wall with doors to the small patio, garden, Jacuzzi area. It feels open and bright -- just what I like. There are no houses looking down on you too close and it backs up onto the other yards so it is private and secure.

Upstairs is a nice big bedroom and a secondary bedroom with twin beds. The bathroom is reasonable sized and works very well - no issues at all.

The Wi-Fi is very good and works all over the house. The Sat TV includes some English channels (CNN, CNBC, BBC) as well as tons of French ones. Takes a bit of getting used to for the TV system but it works well.

It was a bit surprising to me how quiet the neighborhood and street is -- I rarely heard a thing from outside. I think the stone walls and the soundproofing help -- but there is no noise that I ever noticed at all.

Parking is only slightly tricky. There are a few hours where the local school comings and goings effect the availability of spaces on the narrow street, and do NOT bring a big SUV here -- the street is really narrow! But I never had any problem finding a place and there are several adjacent streets where you can park, and then move into the street in front of the house another time.

You will find supermarkets just a 5 minute drive for the middle sized ones, and the full size "hyper-markets" about 10-15 mins away, you can walk to the "marche" that is 3 times a week as I recall in 5 minutes.

This is a great rental if you like staying in real French town neighborhood. Laure is a delightful lovely woman and if you take good care of her house you will have a new friend!
