The Dordogne region
Dordogne is one of the most beautiful and popular destinations in France.
The region is renowned for its diversity of landscapes, the richness of its cuisine and a wealth of activities on offer to visitors. It is steeped in history and culture with prehistoric caves, bastide towns, churches, gardens, castles and medieval villages. Your will enjoy wandering through the famous towns and villages such Sarlat, Domme, La Roque-Gageac and Bergerac with the twisted back streets and ancient buildings; discovering their heritage of bygone ages as well as shopping in the French markets.
The Dordogne river is enchanting. Take a boat ride on one of those old barges and glide past some of Perigord's most beautiful sights. It is great for those who like activities in the open air, such as canoeing, rafting, fishing and swimming. Hot air ballooning is another adventure which is popular, visitors can admire the stunning landscapes and beautiful sites from above.
The climate is hot in the summer and warm in the Spring and Autumn season.
Bergerac is a lovely town which offers all the amenities. The old town has wonderful timber buildings, narrow streets and a statue of Cyrano de Bergerac. You can embark on a barge tour on the river Dordogne, at the Maison du Vines sample the sumptuous local wines and the adjacent cloister holds free evening concerts in the summer months. Saturday and Wednesdays are market days in Bergerac. You will find seasonal local produces such as strawberries, honey, vegetables, walnuts, truffles, free range meats and chicken and lovely fresh baked breads in abundant.
In our area, there are many jazz concerts throughout the year and they are often held in château and vineyards. A pre-concert dinner is sometimes on offer at a very reasonable price.
InJuly and August , the 'night markets' in various villages are a great favourite of the locals and tourists alike where one could enjoy the delights of the local cuisine outdoors in the warm summer evenings with music and sometimes dance and often end with fire works towards midnight.
It is an ideal place to discover and 'déguster' the wines of Bergerac, Perchament & Mobazillac, the vineyards are just a short drive from the gites. Other famous châteaux in St Emilion, Pomerol and Bordeaux are also within easy reach.
The area has many restaurants offering local gastronomy with such mouth watering cuisine like confit de canard and foie gras. There is a Michelin starred restaurant just 20 minutes away from the gites.
For those who like walking or cycling, the gorgeous countryside is at the doorstep of La Petite Devinie.
There is a riding school 15 minutes away and golf courses are about 1/2 hour drive.

"Peaceful, well located for exploring the region, excellent pool"
Stayed for a week with wife and child while some friends of ours stayed in the adjacent chalets. The highlight of the property is the excellent 12m pool. The accommodation was fine with plenty of space and we received a very warm and informative welcome from Isabel when we arrived. Whilst the area available is several acres - only around 20-30% of it is actually usable at the moment as the grass in the lower part has been allowed to grow into a "meadowland" for various reasons - the photos on the website are therefore not a reflection of the current "state of play". It's still plenty of space but I was a little disappointed that the young children couldn't run around quite so much or explore the full boundaries of the property on their bicycles.
The only other minor problem we had was unreliable wifi but I think it's safe to assume that this has now been fixed.
All in all a very nice set of gites in a great location and one of the best pools you will find within this price range.
Thank you for taking your time to write a review. La Devinie is set on 2.7 hectares of ground. In spring time, the meadow is full of wild flowers and attracted hundred of butterflies. The grass on the meadow normally would have been cut by our neighbouring farmer in June. Unfortunately he had been ill and we had to wait until he was better to cut the grass for us with his farm tractor. I'm happy to report that the grass has been cut since your departure. There are walking and cycling paths around our property and beyond. It is so much better than riding a bike on our ground. There was a slight problem while you were here with the router and that has been rectified and the wi-fi is now working perfectly well.

"Charming Gite with fabulous views of the surrounding countryside and everything you need for a relaxing holiday"
We really enjoyed our stay in this charming Gite. The Gite is beautifully furnished and well equipped with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The Patio has fabulous views of the garden and the surrounding countryside, it was lovely to sit out and enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine! The area has some lovely walks and we were delighted with a few 'rare spots' including deer, red squirrel, black kite and golden oriole. Isabel and Rowan are fantastic hosts, and made us feel very welcome. Their knowledge of the local area was invaluable, advising us on places to see and booking local restaurants for us. We highly recommend L'Albizia for a relaxing holiday and hope to return again soon.

"Beautiful location and fantastic hosts"
The best review I can give to La Petit Devinie is to say that we can't wait to go back.
The gites are extremely pretty and have a stunning view looking out over the rolling countryside. Every evening, when the little 'un was asleep, we'd sit out with a bottle of wine and chill as the sun went down.
We stayed in L'Albizia, which was the perfect base for our trip. The property is really charming with its exposed stone walls and wooden beams and, in the kitchen, you'll find all the appliances and utensils you'll need for your stay. There's also a BBQ, which you can fire up on the terrace.
The property is close enough to the main tourist sights to avoid any marathon car journeys, yet far enough away to feel like you're escaping to your own little retreat at the end of the day. Isabel and Rowan were a brilliant resource when it came to planning trips out with our 1 year-old - everything they suggested was a hit.
A few extra things: the pool is great place to cool off and kept in perfect condition. There's a very handy shop in the centre of the village, which sells all your essentials (and amazing bread). And there are a couple of supermarkets around 20 mins drive away for everything else.

"Amazing holiday gite, stunning location with peace and quiet"
Isabel and Rowan really helped us out of a very trickey situation. We needed accomodation as a matter of urgency as we had to leave our previous gite having been threatened by one of the owners. It was a huge weight off our shoulders to have alternative accomodation at such short notice, especially with a 9 month old baby and in the process of searching for a home to live. The venue is absolutely fantastic and we were made to feel extremely welcome by Isabel and Rowan. Couldn't fault it. The pool is also another luxury, of which Rowan is very proud!
Thank you both again so much!

"Relaxing comfortable stay in a beautiful part of France"
We felt very welcome at this gite north of Bergerac. Clean and comfortable in lovely large grounds, a great view and a short walk to a really good local shop to get fresh bread and morning croissants. Isabel and Rowan, the owners, were constantly helpful: good wine advice, suggestions on places to visit and they even arranged horse riding for our daughters. We were right at the beginning of the season, but Rowan went out of his way to get the excellent pool up and running. We had a great time.
