The Dordogne region
Dordogne is one of the most beautiful and popular destinations in France.
The region is renowned for its diversity of landscapes, the richness of its cuisine and a wealth of activities on offer to visitors. It is steeped in history and culture with prehistoric caves, bastide towns, churches, gardens, castles and medieval villages. Your will enjoy wandering through the famous towns and villages such Sarlat, Domme, La Roque-Gageac and Bergerac with the twisted back streets and ancient buildings; discovering their heritage of bygone ages as well as shopping in the French markets.
The Dordogne river is enchanting. Take a boat ride on one of those old barges and glide past some of Perigord's most beautiful sights. It is great for those who like activities in the open air, such as canoeing, rafting, fishing and swimming. Hot air ballooning is another adventure which is popular, visitors can admire the stunning landscapes and beautiful sites from above.
The climate is hot in the summer and warm in the Spring and Autumn season.
Bergerac is a lovely town which offers all the amenities. The old town has wonderful timber buildings, narrow streets and a statue of Cyrano de Bergerac. You can embark on a barge tour on the river Dordogne, at the Maison du Vines sample the sumptuous local wines and the adjacent cloister holds free evening concerts in the summer months. Saturday and Wednesdays are market days in Bergerac. You will find seasonal local produces such as strawberries, honey, vegetables, walnuts, truffles, free range meats and chicken and lovely fresh baked breads in abundant.
In our area, there are many jazz concerts throughout the year and they are often held in château and vineyards. A pre-concert dinner is sometimes on offer at a very reasonable price.
InJuly and August , the 'night markets' in various villages are a great favourite of the locals and tourists alike where one could enjoy the delights of the local cuisine outdoors in the warm summer evenings with music and sometimes dance and often end with fire works towards midnight.
It is an ideal place to discover and 'déguster' the wines of Bergerac, Perchament & Mobazillac, the vineyards are just a short drive from the gites. Other famous châteaux in St Emilion, Pomerol and Bordeaux are also within easy reach.
The area has many restaurants offering local gastronomy with such mouth watering cuisine like confit de canard and foie gras. There is a Michelin starred restaurant just 20 minutes away from the gites.
For those who like walking or cycling, the gorgeous countryside is at the doorstep of La Petite Devinie.
There is a riding school 15 minutes away and golf courses are about 1/2 hour drive.

"Lovely green surroundings and friendly hosts"
The property is exacly as described and displayed, so no nasty surprises when arriving. We received a very warm welcome, in fact, from the owners Isabel and Rowan, who remained very helpful and chatty throughout our stay. They are always on hand to offer advice and put in a lot of time and effort to keep their grounds and pool in top condition. The location was also perfect for us. We could easily reach many points of interest and found plenty to do in the region. It was also pleasant to return to the gite at the end of the day and have relaxing surroundings with a pretty view and plenty of space for our little son to enjoy himself and stretch his legs.

"Total relaxation and gorgeous views."
This was our second visit to La Belle de Jour and once again we loved it. If you are looking for a relaxed pace of life with plenty to see and do then this is the place. The pool is fantastic for sunny days lounging by the gite and we explored the local area by car on the not so sunny days - gorgeour scenery, rustic villages, amazing french cuisine and of course the legendary wine of the region! But make sure you plan in lunch between 12 and 2 as the French are fairly religious about their restaurant opening hours! Our fantastic hosts made us so welcome once again. We plan to visit again next year,

"A warm welcome and stunning scenery"
I would thoroughly recommend this property for a relaxing holiday in stunning countryside. We used it as a base to explore the Dordogne region and were in no way disappointed. Less than 20 mins drive from Bergerac airport and you are in the rolling countryside of rural France. Very quiet, except for the hooting of the barn own and ringing of the local church bells! The property is perfect for a couple or small family. Extensively equipped for a self catering property so we cooked at home most evenings. The pool is gorgeous, thanks to very regular and thorough cleaning by the owners who could not have been more hospitible. They recommended some excellent places to visit including first class restaurants - it is really worth speaking to them to get their local knowledge. The only critisism I have was that there was too much to see and do in a week - so we are going back next year!

"Highly Recommended Place To Stay"
We were returning clients to La Petite Devinie and this time stayed in La Belle de Jour. The gite is furnished to a very high standard with all the facilities to make a very comfortable stay. I came with my husband and our two teenage children who loved having WiFi, satalite TV and a swimming pool. The patio area overlooks a fantastic view of the Dordogne countryside. It is a very quiet and peaceful area and also easy access to drive to all local amenities. There is also a small grocery shop which is 10 mins walk away which sells very good bread that is baked on the premises. The owners, Isabel and Rowan, are onhand to give very helpful advice on the area and places to visit etc. A highly recommended place to stay for families, couples etc.
