The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
Located in the South West corner of France, Aquitaine has got it all.
Part of the English Empire in the Middle Ages, its treasures were fought over for centuries – leaving a rich legacy of architecture, history and culture. It continues to be envied – enjoying a wonderful climate of four very different seasons, outstanding natural beauty, superb gastronomy and great wines.
The Bergerac / Saussignac area
The Chateau is set on the outskirts of the Dordogne village of Saussignac which overlooks the Bergerac valley. It offers tranquillity and privacy, and yet is short walk of 10 minutes into the village where there is a bread depot, post office, tennis courts and a restaurant serving both lunch and diners.
Bergerac as mentioned is only 12kms away and has a wealth of facilities such as shops, restaurants, boat trips, karting, canoeing, museums, an aqua park for young children and many fabulous wine Chateaux in the surrounding countryside including the famous Monbazillac Chateau known for its sweet white wine.
For serious foodies, there is a Michelin starred restaurant, Tour du Vent, at Monbazillac, so a short drive for Chateau guests.
In addition, for those who may prefer to cook and eat home, all the towns and villages hold morning markets throughout the year including Bergerac on a Wednesday and Saturday and Eymet on a Thursday with a night market on Tuesday evenings throughout July and August where you will find fantastic fresh food including the specialities of foie gras and the local AOC Bergerac wine.
Chateau Vigiers, the 18 hole Championship Golf Course and Country Club is only 6kms away from the Chateau.
Further afield, yet still easily within a day trip, are the towns of Domme, Sarlat, La Bugue to the east and then to the west, St Emilion and Bordeaux.
