BookThe Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
This region offers crystal clean air and fertile ground in which truffles, nuts and mushrooms flourish, and the local farmers breed geese and ducks to produce the world's most exquisite foie gras. The hot Summer here is perfect for the vine, where local vineyards produce globally acclaimed wines and many other regional tipples, like Vin d'Noix. There are many places of historical interest well worth a visit. All the local Bastide towns of Eymet, Monflanquin, Castillonnes, Villereal and the simply beautiful villages of Monpazier, Issigeac (with its beautiful medieval houses and bishops palace), Pujols and Penne d'Agenais with its winding streets and the church at the summit of the hill are all within easy drive. These Bastide towns, so characteristic of the area, were constructed by both the French and the English when this area was fought over during the 100 Years War and the towns frequently changed hands, in the case of Castillonnes having been divided down the middle for many years. There are many interesting places for walkers and day trips. The renowned prehistoric sites of the eastern Dordogne, the famous cave paintings at Lascaux especially, the old cave dwellings including Roc St Christophe and many caves with wall paintings, etc. There are also the very pretty towns of Sarlat, Domme set on top of the hills, Roc Gageac on a cliff beside the river and the castles of Beynac and Biron.
The Bergerac / Eymet area
The local historic village Eymet is just a 20 minutes walk away or 2Km by car and hosts in July and August the famous night time market. Flower, music, food and wine festivals are ample throughout the summer across all the local neighbouring villages, with a range of activities for groups for all ages in the family within 30 minutes drive. Bergerac is the nearest largest town, being 25 minutes drive away and has a bowling alley, cinema, go karting and of course cruises and canoe trips along the Dordogne. The local lakes just 15 minutes drive away have boating, high dive boards, beaches and sport games for all the family, and there are least 2 horse riding stables within 15 minutes drive of our doorstep. We freely lend our canoe with a soft-easy fit roof rack for you to take out for the day. Ideal for planning a picnic along the local river Dropt and having a fun splash in the canoe with the children. There are several golf courses ranging from 10 minutes to 60 minutes drive away, which include the famous French course at Chateau Vigier. Alternatively, cycling from the door step is ideal, with traffic free roads in every direction, fields of sun flowers, corn and vineyards and the sight of such a vast range of birds to enjoy from the saddle . Two guest bikes are freely available for you to use on your holiday here. Even the night skies are a marvel here, and we even provide a telescope for those perfect clear nights to be fully appreciated. Spotting your first glow worm in late evening, or enjoying the marvels of the milky way, shooting stars and the perfect night skies are often the lasting memories taken away after a satisfied holiday here at Domaine de Juliette.

We stayed in Les Tourtereaux for 2 weeks in October and enjoyed the most fabulous peaceful break with fabulous views right from the front door. The gite itself is indeed rustic, 300 years old, full of character with beams, original beautiful tiles and then equipped with more accessories and items you'd typically expect in a French gite. It felt more like a farm house holiday home than just a gite to be honest. We enjoyed some of the English TV in the gite, got through a few of the interesting books left there and indulged daily on the wonderful figs available in the garden. Brian was always very responsive via email helping us with suggestions and great recommendations for places to visit / eat out. With the free use of bikes, broad band and outdoor WiFi and the lovely wine they greeted us with, we thought the holiday was very worth while and we'll be definitely returning with friends to make more use of the pool during a warmer time of year next time. The pictures don't do this place justice as the grounds are stunning and everything inside the gite is very clean and well maintained. We also had our security deposit already in our account before we returned home, so a very efficient booking service. |

We had a fabulous time here. The local scenery is simply beautiful and it was a great place to unwind and enjoy the delights of rural France. The gite was very clean and comfortable and wonderfully cool in the hot summer nights. Very well equipped kitchen which made cooking easy, and a great little supermarket five minutes away for provisions, but also a good range of cafes and bars in Eymet if we didn't want to cook. Excellent laundry facilities too which made life easy with a family! Our teenage boys found lots to do and loved the pool/darts/table tennis/boules plus english tv channels and wifi. And it was a wonderful safe environment for our dog to enjoy his holiday too. Very friendly and helpful owners who sorted out vet appointment and gave lots of good tips on where to go etc. A great spot, very peaceful but with easy access to really beautiful little towns all around the area. We are already saving to come back again! Mark & Sam and boys plus Archie the Giant Schnauzer |
