The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
One of the most beautiful areas of France typified by its rolling countryside, the Department of the Dordogne lies within the region of Aquitaine in SW France. Blessed with long warm summers and short cold winters it is ideal for wine making and fruit growing. The Dordogne river is home to many Chateaux and places of historical interest. The many fortified towns (Bastides) date from the 100 yrs war with the English.
Bergerac / Pomport area
Bergerac is the 2nd largest town in the Dordogne after its capital Perigueux. It is a busy market town with a delightful old quarter, housing many good restaurants and galleries. There is a wonderful weekly market on Saturday mornings situated round the church in the town centre as well as numerous shops and museums. River trips are available in the traditional Gabares.
Pomport is situated to the south of Bergerac in the heart of the Bergerac and world famous Monbazillac wine producing region. The area abounds with Chateaux, each producing their own wines (red, white, rose, dessert and sparkling) where you are always welcome for a Degustation. There are many surrounding villages such as Eymet, Issigeac and Sigoules, to name but a few, with shopping facilities and local markets.
