The Brittany / Finistere region
Finistère is that bit of Brittany that juts out into the Atlantic. Beautiful and rugged, it is not always as windswept as often assumed, and is a great place for walking, cycling and gourmet holidays. It has a considerably varied countryside and a short drive will see you go from gentle rolling countryside to dramatic cliffs, or sandy wide beaches to rugged and dramatic coastlines.
The apartment is located in a nature conservation area and as such is very suitable for walking. The beautiful beach at Pointe Mousterlin is within walking distance, just over half a kilometre. As you would expect with a nature conversation area it is quiet. It’s a perfect place for a leisurely family holiday or just being together - sharing in the relaxed style of French rural life.
Local activities include diving, surfing, swimming, tennis, walking, sailing, cycling, fishing, wind-surfing, water skiing, paragliding. There are coastal paths and cycle-ways within the area. It’s possible to explore sand dunes, estuaries and hidden creeks, all rich in wildlife or venture in land along leafy lanes between the many orchards.
The coastline is south facing and sheltered, moderating the prevailing weather. Generally the summers are mild, with very pleasant weather in July and with temperatures averaging 20 C.
Benodet area
Ten minutes in land is the chic town of Fouesnant with it’s blend of old and new. The centre of administration for this coastal area, south of Quimper – it has every thing you need to sustain your holiday, supermarkets and also street markets, selling local produce, and of course cider ! There is also a superb ‘Poissonnerie’ with a fantastic variety of daily caught fresh fish and ‘Fruit de Mer’.
Quimper only twenty minutes away provides an eye opening introduction to the grander side of the region. The twin spires of the cathedral are always in view as you stroll around the old town, with its elegant half-timbered houses there’s always a quiet café close by, where ever you may find yourself.

How to get there
Mousterlin is in the Department of Finistere, 6km from Fousenant. The nearest international airport is Brest, 95 km away. RyanAir fly from London Luton to Brest, Air France flies from London Heathrow to Brest, there are also direct flights via Paris from a number of UK airports. It's also possible to fly from London City to Quimper, indirect flights but sometimes good prices.
The nearest ferry port to Brest is at Roscoff, 65kms away. Several ferries cross from Plymouth each day and take about 6 hours to reach France. Other possible ferry ports are St Malo (235km) and Cherbourg (422 km).
Another possibility is to take the TGV from London to Paris and then on to Brest.
