The Costa Blanca/Valencia region
A resort with a micro climate and one of Europe's most popular holiday resorts. The historic town of Guadalest is worth a visit if you have a car.
If the beach and swimming pool are not enough to keep you amused, there are a host of other attractions in Benidorm. The open market on Sunday and Wednesday sells almost everything from fruit to carpets. A great place to stock up on fresh local produce. The numerous bars offer not only local and the more recognised brews, but quite a few have cabaret artists of variable talent to help you relax. The many restaurants and cafes will keep you fed for a relatively small amount. The Old Town is the place to go for Spanish menus and if you get lost, you will discover a few of the more traditional cobbled streets.
For the young at heart or those with children, big or small, the local theme parks can be visited for the day or evening. (Restricted opening days apply from October to May.) The water park Aqualandia is said to be the largest in Europe offering water rides and attractions for the whole family although height restrictions apply to some of the more adventurous attractions like Kamikaze.
Mundomar is located next to Aqualandia. It is a small animal park with penguins, birds, sea lions, dolphins and many more. Dolphin, sea lion and parrott shows are sprinkled throughout the day.
Terra Mitica is a place for excitement and adrenalin rushes. Again height restrictions apply to some rides, but there's plenty for everyone including little ones. Look out for the money off entry coupons in local bars and restaurants.
Terra Natura is the most recent addition. A mixture of water and animal park. Many of the animals are in danger of extinction and the park sports mock settlements from Asis, America and Europe.
For the energetic, there is horse riding, sailing, go carting, cable skiing, fishing, motor boat hire and scuba diving in or close to Benidorm. Not to mention walking or taking a boat trip. There are golfing facilities a few kilometers away.
Typical places for a "show" are The Benidorm Palace and the Medieval Castilla (jousting etc).
