To entertain the children, a trip to Futuroscope at Poitiers is a must. It is an amazing cinema park dedicated to the moving image. Futuroscope has over twenty theme-based attraction areas spread across 60 hectares. Another great theme park - Puy du Fou - offers a voyage through history, featuring gladiators, Vikings, medieval city, market town, & biggest stage in the world with extravagant technical effects and 1,000 actors.
Animal parks are also a great hit with children and adults alike. There are several in the area, including Monkey Valley, Le Planete des Crocodiles, Ile de Serpents and La Vallée des Cerfs.
For the more active visitors, there is no shortage of activities including walking and cycling, fishing and go karting.
Golfers are also very well catered for as there are many great golf courses in the area, most notably Chateau des Forges just a couple of miles down the road!!
A wide variety of activities can be found at the Golf Club Château des Forges, leading to a warm, friendly and relaxing atmosphere for all the family.
The nearby villages of Benassay and Vasles have great facilities with restaurant, café bar, cinema, chemist, hairdressers, general store, butchers, weekly market and an excellent boulangerie for your fresh croissant and bread for breakfast.

"An amazing, beautiful, relaxing and enjoyable holiday location"
We had a wonderful two week family holiday at Lac De Maison. From the moment we arrived, saw our beautiful picturesque gite (Honeysuckle), the gardens and met our hosts / owners Simon and Anna we knew it was going to be a special family holiday.
Lac de Maison is just perfect for families with children. Our children were 5, 3 and 4 months at the time of travel. All the equipment you could possibly need/want for babies/toddlers is available so no need to worry about sterilisers, bed rails etc.
The gite itself inside is very attractive and comfortable with plenty of inside space. Each gite comes with a big box of toysand dvds for kids which was great. It is also very clean and fresh. The kitchen has everything you need for making meals but with the quite simply amazing meal service offered by Anna you just wont want to cook yourself ever! We availed of the family meal on our arrival and again during our stay and we all loved it. Myself and my husband also availed of the gorgeous 3 course meals on more than a few occasions. Delivered course by course to you door (with the added bonus of dirty plates taken away course by course) these 3 course meals are excellent restaurant quality, made with fresh local and home grown ingredients.Quite simply fantastic food! There is also the option of the weekly BBQ in the gardens and this is a lovely, relaxed and a nice opportunity to meet people in the other two gites and for the kids to have a play around in the gardens. Again the BBQ food is quite a spread!
The grounds at Lac de Maison are perfect for families. You can open the back door of your gite and let the children go and play safe in the knowledge that it is all totally enclosed and safe. There is so much to entertain the children in the garden - trampolines, wig wams, tree houses, sand pits, archery, football nets etc. Our children had fantastic fun with some other families doing numerous treasure hunt around the gardens. The pool area is kid friendly. It has both a gate and a pool alarm which needs to be activated by an adult.
There are also lots of bikes (and helmets) available to borrow. These cater for all ages and abilities and the lanes around lac de maison are safe for children to cycle with parents. There are two wonderful ponies and the children can have supervised pony rides up and down the lanes which is a real treat.
Despite Lac De Maison being quite remote there are still plenty of things to do in the area / places to eat. We did a few days trips to differing locations (adventrure park with zip wires, acqaurium in la rochelle etc) but actually all we really wanted to do was get back to the house and chill out!
Finally Anna and Simon are great hosts. They are there for you and to help answer any questions you may have but equally they do not live in your pockets!
I would totally recommend Lac De Maison to anyone thinking of visiting. We have already planned our return and cannot wait

We have just returned from a fabulous stay at Lac de Maison. We were made to feel welcome by Anna and Simon straight away when we arrived. The gite we stayed in, Hollyhock, was clean and comfortable and had a lovely outside space. We were greated with a welcome pack of bread, milk, butter, eggs and jams which was a lovely suprise, together with a bottle of Rose wine. Much needed after a day of travelling with a toddler!
The grounds were fantastic and our 16 month old spent hours running up and down. A lot of thought has been put into the playground and the playbarn, both kept our son entertained for hours. He also enjoyed the swimming pool and the bike rides we went on.
We treated ourselves to Anna's beautifully prepared meals on three occasions whilst we were there. They were all great but can particularly recommend the fish pie, yum yum.
The location is tranquil, it was everything we could have wanted and more. We look forward to returning again soon.

"Wonderfully Relaxing Family Holiday - yes you can have such a thing!!"
For our third year running we made our way through the Eurotunnel to visit Anna and Simon at Lac-de-Maison. "It's a long journey but definitely worth it" said our 13 year old son as the familar green barn came into sight. We stayed in the 2 bed Buttercup cottage this year which as always was sparkling clean and fully equipped with everything you could need. The weather was fabulously hot for the whole 2 weeks so of course the swimming pool was put to good use. The new play barn with the air-hockey, pool table and table football was a hit with our 13 year old as were the dressing up clothes and Wii Sing with our 2 girls age 6 and 4. The girls also love collecting the eggs in the morning, riding and grooming the ponies and of course playing with Honey the dog. A bike ride to lunch at the local golf club is a great way to sepnd a few hours. And yes, I did get to spend a couple of hours on my own reading a book in the hammock whilst husband played golf and the girls played with their new friends - now how many family holidays can you do that on? We tried a couple of new day trips out this year. Puy du Fou is a theme park but with live shows including a Bird of Prey ballet with 150 birds and a full size Roman Coloseum with charioteers and 8 lions- quiet a spectacle! Green Venice was our second trip which was absolutely beautiful. Spend the day discovering the waterways with an English speaking gondalier and then relax in one of the many restaurants. Then of course you come home to one of Anna and Simon's delicious restaurant quality meals and relax at your gite under the most amazing stars you will ever see! The bbq's on a Monday evening are a great way to meet your fellow guests and of course to enjoy Anna and Simon's food. If you're lucky Simon might even add in a little after-dinner amusment - not sure who enjoyed the space hopper race the most - the children or the adults! We absolutely love our holidays at Lac de Maison so much so that we are going again next year for 3 weeks! I guarantee that you will leave feeling fully relaxed and batteries recharged.
