The Andalucia region
b Fuengirola and Torremolinos are only short journeys away and as well as beautiful beaches there are 2 water parks and Fuengirola Zoo which is well worth a visit as it is so different. It is visitor and animal friendly with lush walkways and birds and mammals living in their natural habitat. Throughout July and August, the Zoo stays open late to allow visitors to see the more nocturnally active species.
With car-hire the nearby Ardeles Lakes are well worth visiting. The Malaga area is surrounded by old towns, beautiful countryside, olive groves and is saturated in sunshine 300 days of the year.
If the weather is not so good, the Miramar complex at Fuengirola offers shopping, bars and restaurants as well as a multiplex cinema.
Indoor ten-pin bowling is available in the Plaza Mayor shopping and entertainment complex just outside Malaga.
The Sierra Nevada mountains are approximately 11/2 hour drive away where skiing can be enjoyed from November to April.
Information on local attractions and places to visit are available in the apartment as well as from our local agent.
Benalmadena Costa is about 16km to the west of Malaga on the south coast of Spain.
It has a long promenade which backs a 9 km beach with restaurants and cafes to cater for every taste. On the beach, there are many chiringuitos or beach bars where you can enjoy a drink, meal or tapas. The fish dishes are excellent.
The promenade ends in a world famous marina.
The marina has a large shopping centre with bars and restaurants and a Sea-Life Centre aquarium. It has a diving school and a sailing school and fishing and sight-seeing trips can be booked from here.
Paloma Park is off the coast road up from the Windmill Island.
It is a large, very beautiful park with many birds, animals, lovely gardens and a large ornamental lake with a fountain. The public library is there as well as a theatre. It has several small snack bars and the small bar by its main entrance is an excellent relaxing place to watch the world go by while having a drink and something to eat if desired. It is a favourite with Spanish families and tourists alike.
Beside the park is the ferria ground which holds a weekly market and Selwo Marina where you can see dolphins, penguins, sea-lions and parrot shows.
Tivoli World Theme Park is nearby in Arroyo del Miel and is easily reached by car, train, bus or taxi. However you get there, it's a visit well worth making.
The setting is a wonderful combination of tropical gardens, beautiful plazas, fountains, exiting fair ground rides, theatres, restaurants and much more. There are over 300 rides and attractions. Some of the best Flamenco shows are held here and many important musical artists appear in concert every season. For variety and as a contrast to the Spanish Flamenco theatre, there is also a Far West corner, where you can experience the wild west and cowboy life.
Tivoliandia offers 11 rides for the youngest members of the family. So, from small children to grandparents, Tivoli World has something for everyone.
There is a cable car which will take you 750m up to Monte Calamarro. There are many paths and walks in the hills and North Africa can be seen if the weather in clear.
Benalmadena Pueblo is the old village of whitewashed houses, flower covered balconies and narrow cobbled streets with bars, restaurants and craft shops.
Also the famous white village of Mijas is easily reached by car or public transport.
