The Andalucia region
The Costa del Sol is a land of contrasts with mountains, sea, rural villages and tourist areas. It boasts high temperatures all year round, rarely going below 65 degrees (F) in the winter and often above 85 in the summer months, the sun shines for 300+ days a year.
There are excellent beaches up and down the coast, most of them are cleaned every day and are serviced with bars, restaurants, showers, umbrellas, beds, palm trees, children's parks, life guards (check locally) water sports and much more.
There are 11 Marinas on the Costa del Sol, great for sailing and water sport activities, many of the marina's also have busy nightlife and top restaurants.
There are more than 40 golf courses, in the main these are quality courses and have been host to most of the major international championships.
All outdoor activities can be located somwehere in the Costa del Sol or you can choose to relax at one of the many health spas.
For something more traditional there are numerous small Andalucian villages dotted around the mountains, all offering fantastic scenery and an opportunity to experience the calm Spanish way of life and make the most of their hospitality.
Benalmadena is split into three main areas
1) Benalmadena Pueblo (the old village) this is roughly 1 mile from the apartment (and can be reached by bus). The village is made up of traditonal little streets, there is a beautiful square to relax in with outside dining or just to have a drink. There is a little white church up on the top with breathtaking views of the coast down below, there are numerous festivals throughout the year which attract many of the locals, the village still has a very Spanish feel about it
2) Arroya de la Miel - the commercial side of town but still with numerous cafes. Arroya is just over a mile from the apartment (in the opposite direction to the Pueblo), again this can be reached by bus or on foot, the closest train station is in Arroyo, there are 2 trains an hour that run between Fuengirola and Malaga Center (this includes a stop at Malaga airport)
3) Benalmadena Costa has miles of excellent beaches with beds, umbrellas, bars and restaurants (Italian, local seafood, Chinese, Argentinian, American) , running both sides of the Marina. The award winning Marina has many bars and shops and nightlife into the early hours and the Aquarium.
The promenade strteches several kilometers both ways, containing mosaics done by local artists, perfect for strolling (and running) along with chance to stop off at the many bars, cafe's and restaurants, relax with the tranquility of the sand and sea and watch the world go by.
The apartment is in a quite part of Benalmadena, on a new complex situated between the coast and Benalmadena Pueblo, while a car is handy, it isn't vital, the bus service is excellent in Spain (most bus stops have easy to understand tiemtables on them) and certainly a relaxing way to get about (usually via a cafe / bar while you wait for the next bus to come along)
Local attractions include the following
Tivoli World Amusement Park - The largest theme park/amusement park on the Costa del Sol
Benalmadena Sea Life Centre - offers family fun as you explore sea creatures of the marine world.
Selwo Marina - Marine Park - mix of marine and bird life.
Cable Car to Mount Calmorro - a panoramic view of Costa del Sol, Sierra Nevada, Valle del Guadalhorce and, on sunny days, Gibraltar and the African coast.
Casino Torrequebrada Hotel - Roullette and black-jack, as well as some of the Coasts most beautiful dancers in the spectacular cabaret show 'La Fortuna'.
Colomares Castle - beautiful miniature fairy tale style castle to visit and fascinating grounds to walk around, breath taking views, Snake City and a Reptile Sanctuary all with demonstrations.
Torrequebrada Golf - Played host to the Spanish Open and many more firsts line tournaments. (5 minutes from the apartment)
Benalmadena Golf, SL - par 3, 9-hole course, with a 48-place golf school and flood-lit driving range (and a great restaurant / bar)

"Great Apartment and Verandah - Ideal for Meeting Residents"
We took the plunge and decided to rent in Benalmadena for a month for the first time and moved from the Pueblo to this ideally located apartment near Golf Bil Bil. The apartment had everything you could want in a rented accommodation, including parking, pool, bus stops and central location to the Pueblo and Arroyo. Many a night we sat in the verandah for dinner and met many fellow renters as well as owner occupiers. All were friendly and welcoming. If I was a James Bond fan I would have been in heaven as just about every Bond film was available to watch. The apartment was clean, spacious and - most importantly in the summer Spanish heat - had air conditioning that worked. We had such a good time we've booked to go back again in January 2013 for a fortnight to escape the Scottish weather and will also go back next June. I may be shooting myself in the foot by recommending this apartment so highly as I may not get the dates I want........... but it's worth the risk. Book this - you won't regret it. Oh - and the price paid was fab compared to others on offer.
**PLEASE NOTE - THIS APARTMENT NO LONGER HAS AIR CONDITIONING**
