BookThe Costa del Sol region
One of the most popular holiday destinations for tourists and residents is the coast of Andalucia known as the Costa del Sol (Coast of the Sun) and in particular, the area that runs from Nerja to Gibraltar.
Malaga is more or less in the centre of the Costa Del Sol, dividing it into the Eastern Costa del Sol and the Western Costa del Sol.
The Costa del Sol stretches along just over 160 kilometres of Málaga province and the resorts on the western side of the costa are generally the most popular and have something to offer everyone!
The coastal resorts of Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Benalmadena and Marbella are amongst the most popular, offering every amenity and facility available and a fantastic Mediterranean climate – with good weather all year round.
Approximately 19km from Malaga within Andalucia, lies the principality of Benalmadena which consists of three main areas. Benalmadena Pueblo (village), Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmadena Costa.
This newly acquired, recently decorated and furnished apartment can be found on the Arenel Golf Complex – which is in the vicinity of the Benalmadena Pueblo area.
The Benalmadena / Benalmadena Pueblo area
Benalmadena is made up of three main areas: Benalmadena Pueblo, Benalmadena Costa and Arroyo de la Miel.
Benalmadena Pueblo is the original old town settled in the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas at about 5 kilometers inland. The town is a typical Andalucian style white-washed village with narrow streets and superb views of the coastline. There are a wide range of attractions in this area, which includes a museum, a picturesque church, gardens and an interesting castle (Colomares Castle) which is also a sanctuary for birds and tropical animals!
Local Cultural festivals include....
Easter Week, live presentation of the Passion of Christ in the Pueblo
February 28th - Andalucia Day (everything Spanish closed)
24th-29th June. Arroyo de la Miel celebrates John the Baptist with a local fair
Mid-August, Virgin of the Cross festivities with a fair in the Pueblo
July 16th, evening boat procession on the Costa for Veladilla del Carmen
Benalmadena Costa has 9km of shoreline with beautiful beaches and tiny coves and a fully equipped Marina for over 1,000 vessels. The marina is surrounded by apartments, shops, restaurants, boutiques and the Sea-Life aquarium. It also offers sports such as diving and sailing. The marina boasts many international awards for design and functionality.
Close to the Marina, visitors will find a 24-hour square with a numerous nightclubs, discos and a cinema, which makes it a popular area for the young.
Benalmadena Costa also has its own casino, night club and golf course. There is a garden of over 200,000 square metres, overlooking the sea - The La Paloma Park has a large lake with landscaped gardens, wildlife and a mini zoo.
Opposite the park is the Selwo marine park with its Dolphin and Sea-lion displays. As you head further west along the coast beyond the Torrequebrada Casino, the resort area becomes quieter and you will find smaller, less crowded beaches.
There is also a historic Plaza de Toros (bullring) as well as 15-20 golf courses all within a 20 minute drive. If you fancy it you could take a trip to Gibraltar or Marbella and wander round the designer shops in Puerto Banus.

*******************************************Benalmadena Marina************************************************
No trip to Benalmadena would be complete without a visit to its world famous marina, often referred to as Puerto Marina. Designed by the architect Eduardo Oria it first opened its doors in 1982, after taking nearly 10 years to complete. The concept was to bring the marina into the town; this was achieved by the creation of several islands, hosting both residential & commercial structures.
The architecture of these surrounding buildings is a fusion of Indian, Arabic, & Andalusian styles which (perhaps surprisingly) works incredibly well. Car parking is well hidden with adequate capacity, leafy gardens & mosaics dot its fringes; all this adding to the marina's individual feel & presence.
Since its inauguration the marina has been awarded the "Best Marina in the World" title on two occasions. In addition its waters boast the European Blue Flag for cleanliness.

**************************************Cable car to Mount Calmorro***********************************************
The funicular railway in Benalmádena is today a must both for residents and visitors, who will climb uphill Monte Calamorro for a moderate fee. The 769-metre-high mountain is one of the highest in the province of Málaga. Once on the summit, you will enjoy a panoramic view of Costa del Sol, Sierra Nevada, Valle del Guadalhorce and, on sunny days, Gibraltar and the African coast.
The funicular cars carries 4 passengers, who will take near 15 minutes to climb up the hill. On reaching the peak, you can walk along the clearly signposted paths that lead to Cima Calamorro, Sur and Oeste viewpoints.
You can also choose to watch birds of prey hovering over the area, ride on tame donkeys, or attend a horse breaking-in show, among other appealing activities. For those who just want to sit and have a drink, there is a nice cafeteria.
The trip has something to offer to sports lovers, who can go down on foot or riding mountain bikes on well kept tracks. You can carry your bikes in the funicular cars.
Some curious info: the highest peak is twice and a half as high as the Empire State Building in New York and twice as high as the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The trail is 2,646 m long from the departure to the arrival station, and the vertical descent is 636 m.

*********************************************Benalmadena beaches***********************************************
Benalmadena has a lot to offer when it comes to beaches, with almost 10 kilometres in total. Great care & attention is paid to litter collection, & lifeguards/police patrols are in operation.
****Playa Santa Ana / Santa Ana Beach****
Playa Santa Ana is certainly not the largest beach in Benalmadena (at 500 metres long), but it is one of the most popular, primarily due to location. An urbanised beach it is flanked by hotels and restaurants, and dotted with beach bars. This sandy beach is also host to plenty of other facilities; such as sun beds and umbrellas, showers and public toilets, or access for the disabled. The European blue flag was awarded here in 2002, and emergency services are provided by the Red Cross. Facilities include; Water sports, sun beds & umbrellas, toilets and showers, volleyball nets, ramps and provision for people with disabilities, life guards, and regular police patrols.
**** Playa Carvajal / Carvajal Beach****
Playa Carvajal bridges the gap between Benalmadena and Fuengirola, and is easily accessed via the A7 highway or by taking the train to Carvajal. An urbanised beach it is flanked by high buildings, but this sandy beach is nevertheless very popular amongst locals; especially those with families. At 1600 metres it is one of the longest beaches in Benalmadena and boasts an excellent range of services and facilities. Facilities include; Sun beds and umbrellas, children's park, water sports, windsurfing, sailing, fishing, toilets and showers, ramps and provision for people with disabilities, life guards, and regular police patrols.
**** Playa Las Viborillas / Las Viborillas Beach****
At 150 metres in length Playa Las Viborillas is small and consists of fine gray sand. It is however one of the most poplar beaches around, mainly due to the green vegetation that surrounds it. In short those who do not like urban beaches usually end up here. A certain number of sun beds and umbrellas are available for hire here and there is a restaurant open at one end of the beach. Facilities include; Sun beds and umbrellas, parking, sailing, and fishing.
**** Playa Torre Bermeja / Torre Bermeja Beach****
Playa Torre Bermeja is a sandy beach for all the family. Though not the largest beach (measuring approximately 600 metres) it boasts a wide array of facilities, including a children's playground, football pitch and volley ball nets. The town is within easy walking distance and there are a variety of dining options available. Facilities include; Sun beds and umbrellas, children's park, water sports, windsurfing, sailing, fishing, volleyball nets, football pitch, toilets and showers, ramps and provision for people with disabilities, life guards, and regular police patrols.
**** Playa La Morera / La Morera Beach****
Playa La Morera is a small rural beach measuring 260 metres. Though not one of the nicest beaches around it is popular and frequented by many locals, and as such can get very noisy. Large family groups often set up here for the day, cooking their own food. Groups of young people have also been known to camp out here from time to time. Facilities include; Sun beds and umbrellas, water sports, toilets and showers, diving, fishing, and parking.
**** Playa Torrevijia / Torrevijia Beach****
Playa Torrevijia is in view of the infamous Torrequebrada hotel, and is made up of a mix of sand and stones. As a result it is both a good place for snorkelling due to the rocky outcrops surrounding it. Facilities include; Sun beds & umbrellas, water sports, toilets and showers, windsurfing, diving, fishing, and high capacity parking.
**************************************Casino -Torrequebrada Hotel**************************************************
The thrills of roullette and black-jack, as well as some of the Coasts most beautiful dancers in the spectacular cabaret show 'La Fortuna'. Dinner and show events.
*********************************************Colomares Castle*****************************************************
Near Benalmadena Pueblo village. There is also a beautiful miniature fairy tale style castle to visit and fascinating grounds to walk around, breath taking views, Snake City and a Reptile Sanctuary all with demonstrations.
*****************************************Aqua Park - Torremolinos*************************************************
Torremolinos Aquapark was built in 1984 and has constantly been updated with its attractions and installations. The Aquapark is undoubtedly the pioneer and is the largest Water Park on the Costa del Sol. It features the highest 'Kamikaze' in Spain and other attractions there include the 'Black Hole' and a multi-pool area. Aquapark is located in one of the most visited and developed tourist areas, covering over 70,000 square metres and is certainly a fun filled day out for the whole family. There is a bus service available which takes you right there, and there are a selection of bars and restaurants and souvenir shops on site. good apartment huge balcony nice haveing two bathrooms .when theres a few of you .good views pool just round corner.club house just open.very nice get snack and a drink only min/walk away.bus stop just out side approx every 40 min easy going out .bit harder trying get back.taxi anything from 7/9 euro .super market 10or 15 min walk up very steep hill.nice quite place would recommend car.things did not like got use to fridge alarm.not one decent sun bed.and the other thing that did not like was the apartment, above water flowers or so they said but when they did this the water came down on us below .this happend when we were out side on balcony haveing some thing to eat or drink .then you would have go in side save getting wet.family from stoke on trent. Response: There is a steep hill for access to Phase 2 which is walk-able but a car is advised as stated in the advert. The fridge alarm has been repaired and all of the sun beds have been replaced for hard wearing , robust plastic type. Flower beds on the terraces of the apartments above this ground floor property are periodically watered from time to time which means that water can drip directly onto the ground floor terrace. Just to reassure any future guests- flower watering is restricted until after specific hours in the community and it is also infrequent. The ground floor terrace is also large enough to not place the outdoor furniture directly underneath the apartment terraces above. |

Would recommend a car, we have stayed here many times ( that in itself is a strong recommendation! ) and there has never been a problem, it has heating and aircon which makes it very comfortable and it has Sat TV which is great, the owners are nice to book through along with the lady that gives you the key on arrival. Wouldnt want to stay anywhere else when in this region 10 out of 10. |
