The Costa del Sol region


The Costa del Sol has a wonderful climate, sunny and hot for the spring and summer months, and mild during the winter - the perfect year round holiday destination.
You will never be hard pressed to find something to do. There are lots of super places to visit, lots of activities to pursue and many interesting and colourful places to eat.
Within 20 minutes by local bus or train you can be in FUENGIROLA with its 7km (5 miles) of golden beaches, renowned Fuengirola Zoo and Giant Water Park (Parque Acuatico Mijas). Just up the road is MIJAS, a pretty 9th century Andalucian village with craft shops, cafes and the well known donkey taxis. Mijas nestles on the mountainside with landscaped viewing platforms and seating for you to look over the spectacular coastline below.
A few stops by train will take you to MALAGA - The city of Malaga boasts the world famous Picasso Museum. Other places of interest are the comprehensive shopping centre, the Cathedral, the Castle and the Port.
There are many 1-day conducted coach trips:-
GIBRALTAR - very popular for shoppers looking for tax free goods.
NERJA – a seaside town with famous caves.
RONDA – a picturesque ancient town set way up in the mountains.
For the more adventurous there are trips to places like Sevilla and Granada. And, just across the water to exotic Tangier in North Africa!
If you fancy just sitting with a book sunbathing, maybe taking a quiet dip, then going out in the evening for a nice meal the Cost del Sol has it all. It won't let you down !
The Benalmadena / Arroyo de la Miel area
Arroyo de la Miel is a wonderful destination - colourful and lively mixed with the laid back atmosphere of the Mediterranean. It has lots of lovely restaurants and bars to choose from and just 5 minutes walk away is the vibrant nightspot called Bonanza Square. It is the perfect place to eat and drink and soak up the sunshine.
Arroyo de la Miel has a "mini Disney World" with stage shows (Tivoli World). Opposite Tivoli World is the exciting cable car ride (Teleferica) which will take you to the top of the mountain! Benalmadena has a very impressive new Marina development offering boat trips, restaurants, colourful shops and boutiques. If you fancy diving beneath the sea without getting wet there is the Sea Life Centre and if you would also like to see a dolphin show then the Selwo Marina is a must.
For that gentle stroll just a stone's throw away is the well loved Paloma Park, with its picturesque lake and aviary. In neighbouring Torremolinos you will find an exciting Giant Water Park (Aqualand).

Arrived late at night dreary entrance , only one lift in operation, staff unhelpfull at the complex. Dreary entrance and reception area. Studio was clean but very dated , sofa bed very uncomfortable could not sleep on it and camp bed collapsed completely. All cupboards had owners possessions inside. The pictures were deceiving and not as described we only stayed one night then booked into hotel. Response: We are pleased that the client has now felt able to express his true feelings, in writing, in the public domain. We did have two lengthy conversations with the client prior to receiving this Review during which he made it quite clear that he was not complaining but simply drawing his observations to our notice, for which we are grateful. The client also informed us that he had never previously stayed in self catering accommodation. He stated that he normally stayed in a Hotel and expected to pay about £300pw. This apartment cost £149pw inclusive. It would seem that the problem here is that the client was surprised that his expectations, from a self catering holiday, in someone else's modestly priced second home, were not fulfilled. We do not see how a week in a Hotel for £300 can be fairly compared to a week in a self catering apartment for £149. Our comments on the other minor details mentioned are: arriving at a private apartment block for the first time, late at night might well appear dreary, although we would not necessarily agree; there are no staff as such at night, only watchmen, it is not a Hotel; there are four lifts and our information is that only one of them was out of order; the apartment is definitely not dated, in our considerable experience, it is homely and quite typical of its type; the client knew there was a sofa bed when he booked, and nobody has previously described this bed as uncomfortable; we have never had a fold-up bed (not a camp bed) collapse before; some cupboards quite typically do contain owners possessions locked away, after all, it is some else's second home; the pictures (ie photos) are representative and nobody else has ever been deceived. We acknowledge receipt of this Review and accept that it was intended to be helpful. However, we feel that, on our own behalf and on behalf of the landlord we must reject both the tone and the content of this Review in its entirety for the reasons clearly stated above. |

This apartment was perhaps tolerable in early 90s but not in 2011. Its drawbacks: - the electric cooker – I doubt the owner has ever tried to cook anything on it – when one ring is on, the another does not work. To boil water you need 1 hour. - sofa bed – old, worn out, short (someone taller than 1.65 m has to keep his legs out of it), creaking loud, very uncomfortable. - Single, additional bed = camp bed. It was in the apartment although we have asked for a place for 2 adults and a baby cot. The representative of the owner said that “he will not take it away, because he has got no other place to keep it”. - wardrobe and cupboards (one of 3 was closed for good) - full of owner's equipment eg. old suitcase, books, stepladder etc. – practically no space for our things - chairs at the dining table – old, worn out and uncomfortable. On the owner www site it is stated (I have printscreens) “dining seating – 3; lounge seating – 3” so you can think there is a separate space for dining and lounge space – in fact this is the same table and chairs. - shower – without a possibility of height regulation, placed too high. - hot water – available only when you turn on the electric boiler at least an hour before you want to use it. Boiler heats water enough only for the bath for one person - lift – is so small that we could hardly place the baby-buggy inside. Very dark, old and frequently out of order. Generally: choosing this apartment is very bad idea especially regarding there is thousands of new and comfortable apartments and rooms to rent in all Benalmadena and other cities with prices comparable or even lower. Response: We have rented this competitively priced apartment for over 10 years and we have never had an adverse review. Occupancy rates are consistently in excess of 85% per annum with a pleasingly high content of returning clients and referrals. The occupancy rate for 2011 is 88.46%. This is a comfortably equipped, carefully maintained Studio Apartment in a neat well administered block, complete with swimming pool and kiosk in a delightful garden, and with it's own gated car park. The apartment is concisely and accurately described on the website and there is a comprehensive collection of photos of the apartment itself, the pool area and the garden, together with a good selection of local photos to give a flavour of the area. In our opinion, based on over 20 years in the rental business in Spain, this apartment provides suitable holiday accommodation and gives good value for money, for a couple, or a family of two adults and one child. |
