BookThe Costa del Sol region
The Costa del Sol region enjoys a fabulous climate, boasting over 300 days of sunshine a year and being only around 2 1/2 hours from the UK is easily accessible to all.
There is plenty to see and do in and around Andalusia. Go westward from the villa and you will find Marbella and Puerto Banus the Costa del Sol playgrounds of the rich and famous. Stay a little closer and discover Fuengirola and Benalmadena Marina, both offering sun, sea, sangria and bustling nights out!
Travel inland and you have areas that retain their traditional Spanish ways, Mijas with its tightly packed, white washed houses and Ronda, with its huge cliffs and spectacular drawbridge are both well worth a visit. Granada with the Alhambra Palace and Sevilla and its magnificent cathedral are both very enjoyable day trips.
To the East of the villa is the city of Malaga, which is often overlooked. It hosts the famous Picasso museum and has a Renaissance and Baroque influenced cathedral alongside many shops, restaurants, cafés and bars. Head further East and you travel along a beautiful coastline lined with olive groves and orange trees and along the way you will find Nerja with its famous caves.
The Benalmadena / Benalmadena Pueblo area
Benalmadena Pueblo is only around a 15minute walk from the villa and is a beautifully kept village full of narrow streets with pretty houses. In the Plaza de España around the fountain are several open air restaurants, serving tasty tapas, it is a great place for lunch or dinner sat in the sun or under the shade of the orange trees.
The old Church built on the rock in the Pueblo is surrounded by walkways and gardens from which there is a breathtaking view, and it is all lit up beautifully at night. Castillo Colmenar is a fairytale castle built just below the Pueblo, it is captivating and well worth a visit. There is also a Stupor on an elevated point just around the corner from the villa, whose large dome is covered in gold, very eye catching!
Within walking distance of the villa is the Altos del Higueron shopping centre which has a Carrefour supermarket, a bank, an Italian restaurant which has superb pizzas to eat in or take away. Then there is the Taberna del Frasco bar, a dry cleaners, internet café, excellent Indian restaurant, hairdressers and the very stylish 'Punto Rojo' restaurat and bar. All the restaurants and bars have tables and chairs on the pavement so you can sit watch the world go by.
The villa is 5 minutes in the car from the coast road which leads you to Benalmadena Costa with its 'puerto marina' - a spectacular marina with excellent restaurants and bars that cater for a la carte cuisine and others that are ideal for family meals out. Around the marina are activities for the children and shops for mum and dad and for those that enjoy a late night the bars and clubs are plentiful. Taxi ranks are in abundance and will know how to return to the Pueblo.
Water sports Facilities along the coast include Paragliding, Water ski-ing, Jet-skiing and Banana Boat rides with 'Funny Beach' being a popular destination. Surfing, kite surfing and wind surfing are all becoming popular along the coast.
The cable car at Benalmadena takes you up to the mountain top of Calamorro (724 meters). Other attractions in and around the area include Sea Life Aquarium, Tivoli World Amusement Park, Mijas Aqua Park and Go-karting, Fuengirola Zoo and Horse-riding at the Hipodromo Racecourse.
There are an abundance of golf courses near to the villa including Torrequebrada, the world famous Mijas course, La Cala Resort and Valderrama (host to the Ryder Cup in 1997). In total there are more than 60 golf courses on the Costa del Sol and they all have one thing in common - the fantastic sunny and dry climate allowing golfers to play all year round.

After tackling the first 'big' shop up the stairs we enjoyed an amazing 10 days in the villa. We thought it was extremely homely and had all of the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. We travelled with our two young sons, aged 2 and a half years and 1, who absolutely loved it! We hadn't planned on renting a car but very glad we did as the walk to the shops wasn't as close as anticipated. The villa was up to a very high standard and once we rectified the problem of ants there were no problems at all. We bought some scented bags that tied at the top which we found did the trick to not attracting them. We agree with the previous comment regarding cushions around the pool, some refreshed ones would be ideal and a few parasols as the pool area and gardens is an absolute sun trap from 8.30am until 7pm! Overall an excellent villa, with outstanding views. Will definitely be returning! |
