The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
Over 300 days of sunshine every year, a beautiful coastline with fabulous beaches, enchanting towns and villages, magnificent countryside, stylish resorts, sophisticated nightlife, superb shopping and an amazing choice of golf courses make the Costa del Sol a perfect choice for a holiday.
The area offers something for everyone - families, couples, groups of friends and, of course, golfers. The Costa del Sol caters to the young and old alike, offering a host of entertainment choices for both natives and visitors.
The coast boasts one of the highest concentrations of world-class golf courses (mostly in Malaga,Spain), to the extent that it is often dubbed "The Costa del Golf". For families there are theme parks, including water parks, go-karting, safari parks and many beautiful public gardens. For younger visitors the main areas of attraction are Benalmadena's Puerto Marina & '24-hour square' and Puerto Banus in Marbella. Both are very trendy and chic, but be warned: the bars and clubs don't get busy until near midnight and stay open 'till dawn.
The area's infrastructure is well organized with the new Autopista del Sol providing access from Malaga to Estepona and beyond to Gibraltar. The old N-340 coastal road (now also called the A-7) is a little slower but offers some lovely sea views as it winds its way along the coast. Links between Granada, Seville and Cordoba are easily accessible for those wishing to venture further inland. The International airport has regular flights to most major cities, and is located just 10 minutes from Malaga City centre.
Depending on what you enjoy you could drive for 10 minutes inland and find typical white Andalucia Villages, visit designer shops in Puerto Banus, enjoy a meal mixed with the scent of orange blossom in Marbella Old Town, choose from 40 Golf courses on the Costa Del Sol, sit on the beaches, walk in the mountains, ski on the lakes, visit a children's theme park, go to a flea or street market.
Please take time to plan your break, visit Marbella Old Town, Estepona, Ojen, Istan. The wonderful town of Ronda, Granada is only 2 hours away. Malaga itself is a beautiful City, one of Europe's most underrated. Stroll around the Yachts and people watch in Puerto Banus or Benalmadena. Sit on a Costa Del Sol beach on a clear day, squinting to see if that really is Africa in the distance.
The Costa del Sol, is one of the areas that contains all the ingredients for a good holiday.

URB. EL CASTILLO DE LA HEREDIA
In the foothills of the Sierra Blanca Mountains just above the charming costal town of San Pedro de Alcantara, you will find this delightful village that is pure Andalucía. It is a unique, private community nestled into the hills in the style of the traditional pueblos blancos, offering a stunning location and prize winning architecture.
The village is a gated community offering 24-hour security and boasts 2 idyllic communal swimming pools, one of which is heated all year long. Situated at the entrance of the picturesque village of La Heredia, La Casita restaurant is a must for anyone whom is staying in the village.
La Casita is great restaurant run by husband and wife team Lawrence and Sasha Otterburn. Lawrence is the head chef and a most wonderful cook and Susanna is front of house making everyone welcome and at ease. Lawrence was trained by Gordon Ramsey and has since enjoyed working with the celebrity as well as offering his valuable expertise consulting restaurants along the coast.
The menu is fresh vibrant and exciting mixing of Spanish and English cuisines and then giving it a La Casita twist. With Lawrence's fresh daily specials there is always something new on the menu to try and you are always rewarded when you do. The wine and cocktail list is excellent and well worth a visit for the list on its own.
We do recommend you book in advance as this little gem quickly fills up most evenings. La Casita also has a special lunch menu - Tuesday to Saturday and a different Sunday lunch menu that includes Sunday roast. For further information on La Casita call (Spain) 952788033.
Set within the boundaries of La Heredia you will also find a European Bakery offering daily fresh bread and a quality butchery.
A newly opened “K Bar” is situated next to La Casita restaurant offering snacks and drinks day and night.
Just down the Ronda Road from La Heredia is a new commercial centre “Los Halcones Centre Comercial”. Here you will find a small supermarket (with late night opening – although alcohol in Spain cannot be purchased after 10pm in shops), café and restaurant.
BENAHAVIS
Benahavis is a simply delightful mountain village overlooking the Guadalmina River and according to the BBC Holiday Programme 'as close to paradise as you can get'.
In many ways one of Andalucía's best kept secrets Benahavis is just 7 km into the mountains from the main coast road, immediately west of San Pedro de Alcántara and only a few minutes from Marbella and Puerto Banus.
The village itself is a delightful pueblo with pretty houses, a few shops and a simply amazing choice of restaurants. It is known locally as the Rincón de la Gastronomía or the 'dining room' of the Costa del Sol.
There are a few little shops for essentials (including freshly baked bread), a pharmacy, 4 banks and some lovely galleries including that of the famous sculptor David Marshall. For more choice there are several excellent supermarkets a few minutes drive away.
If you like walking this is the perfect place with lovely walks through the hills and mountains all with splendid views. There are walks for everyone from challenging slopes to level tracks through the woods.
Benahavis is a great centre for sightseeing and the choice a places to visit and things to do is seemingly endless. Ronda is not to be missed and Estepona and Gibraltar are easy to reach. Seville, Granada, Cadiz and Córdoba are a little further afield. The countryside around is simply stunning.
SAN PEDRO DE ALCÁNTARA
San Pedro de Alcántara is very Spanish in flavour with a surprisingly good choice of international restaurants and exclusive shops - you will have to hunt them down in the warren of small streets. There is a superb promenade along the seafront.
San Pedro is just 10 minutes drive west Marbella and about 30 minutes' drive away from the natural beauty of the Serrania de Ronda Mountains.
An ancient farming community, once famous for sugar cane, today San Pedro is a refreshingly unspoilt pueblo with an appeal all of its own.
The main square with its imposing parish church is surrounded by narrow streets which are packed with intriguing small shops, cafes and bars. Thursday is market day and you may find some bargains.
The modern wide promenade is ideal for a stroll with several excellent chiringuitos (beachside restaurants) specialising in fish dishes. If you are feeling especially energetic you can walk all the way to Puerto Banus.
For history lovers there is a Paleochristian Basilica Church by the sea and the third century Roman Baths, Las Bovedas.
PUERTO BANUS
Puerto Banus is built around a large marina where some most magnificent yachts lay at anchor. It was originally developed as an exclusive playground for the rich and famous in the 1970's yet still retains the Andalucian character with traditionally narrow streets and white-washed buildings. Nowadays there are also modern shops and celebrated restaurants, bars and nightclubs. There is a huge branch of Spain's best department store - El Corte Ingles and also a large cinema complex that shows some films in English.
Nueva Andalucia has multi-million Euro villas and more modest but still stylish apartments plus some very fine restaurants. It is also home to the Casino. On Saturdays there is a justifiably popular market.
MARBELLA
Marbella stretches along some 27 kilometres of coastline from Cabopino to San Pedro and boasts some of the finest beaches of the Costa del Sol.
Marbella is split into several districts - Marbella East, Marbella Centre, Puerto Banus, Nueva Andalucia and San Pedro. It is a town that offers not only an international jet-set scene but also a typically Andalucian ambience and is a golfer's paradise.
Stroll around the beautifully managed parks and gardens or the narrow streets of Marbella's romantic 'Casco Antiguo' (Old Town), steeped in history and so typically Andalucian. Everything you could need is found here surrounded by an incomparable landscape of sea and mountains.
Marbella East begins at Cabopino - a very pretty little port - and has some of the best beaches in the area including Las Dunas which is a Natural monument.
Marbella Centre comprises the Old Town, centre, beach front (Paseo Maritimo), the sports and fishing ports. Head along the Golden Mile out of Marbella to reach world famous Puerto Banus.
GOLF
For the golfer the Costa del Golf beckons - Many golf courses are just a few minutes' drive and there is a huge choice of other courses within a short distance. Golf courses include; Montemayor, Marbella Club, El Paraiso, Los Flamingos, Atalaya, La Quinta, Los Arqueros, La Zagaleta.

RESTAURANTS
Benahavis is a top spot for dining - Rufino's has a wonderful terrace and offers great food at excellent prices with friendly service. For something more upscale Los Abanicos is a firm favourite and Amigos is excellent - for a special occasion Amanhavis has top fine dining in style. For tapas try Chico's, Villa Josefa or Donde Kike.
Marbella has a huge choice. For steaks try Tanguito in the old town and for international cuisine in an elegant atmosphere Zo Zoi is an excellent venue. Garum on the Paseo Maritimo overlooking the sea has an interesting fusion menu and the location is lovely. Sukothai on the Golden Mile is an excellent Thai restaurant and if you are looking for a curry try The Taj Mahal opposite the Marbella Club Hotel.
Puerto Banus and Nueva Andalucia also have some great places to eat. Terra Sana near the Andalucia Plaza Hotel has wonderful salads and is a perfect choice for lunch. Also great for lunch is Yanx in Centro Plaza or Pinxto opposite El Corte Ingles. For delicious international cuisine Girasol is hard to beat - the service is superb too. Another excellent Thai place is to be found near Dreamers Disco - The Thai Gallery. And if you fancy a pizza there is only one place to go - Picasso - right on the front line in Puerto Banus.
San Pedro has a surprisingly wide choice of good restaurants. Caruso is a stylish but friendly Italian place and for a great Spanish menu try Alfredos. Albert and Simon is an elegant restaurant with a fine menu of international dishes. On the Ronda Road El Coto specialises in roast and grilled meat and game.
If you want to enjoy a meal by the sea try Beach House in Elviria for lunch or dinner. For more informal meals go to Triana at Carib Playa/Las Chapas, Playa Fantastica at Rio Verde Playa, Heaven at Guadalmansa Playa or Pepe's bar in front of Costalita. For upscale dining by the sea Tikitano and Puro are excellent and Villa Tiberio on the Golden Mile is a Marbella institution.
