The Andalucia region

It's not hard to understand why Costa del Sol is one of Europe's top holiday destinations since it boasts over 300 days of sunshine per year with average annual temperatures of 18ºC and 150km of coastline.

The eastern Costa del Sol is the the 54 kilometre stretch of coast to the east of Malaga city (the capital of Málaga province). Though highly developed from a property point of view, it is not anything like the property development on the western Costa del Sol.

East of Malaga, there are cliffs of up to 200 meters high where the Sierra Almijara joins the sea. Nerja is the most important urban centre on this end of the coast and is surrounded by tourist pueblos. This town also claims one of this area's main tourist attractions - the Nerja Caves – a spectacular find that is open to the public and which hosts an annual music and dance festival within its famous caverns. At the foot of Nerja town a winding footpath joins several coves and there are some nice beaches to be found in this area. The beaches of eastern Costa del Sol include Calahonda and Calas Ocidentales in Nerja. Playa Calahonda is very popular among tourists owing to its picture postcard setting. Before you head down to the beach, the view from Balcon de Europa is a must-see. Stick to the well-maintained but winding footpath to explore the coves to the east.

Western Costa del Sol is the 100 kilometre coastline that begins at Malaga city and stretches to the border of Cadiz province. This part of the coast is highly urbanized both in property and infrastructure, attracting a large number of Spain's international tourism. Communications centre around Malaga International Airport and the N340 central coast highway. In the middle of the Costa, the much improved district road from San Pedro de Alcantara to the historic town of Ronda is the most important inland connection.

Ronda is on a towering plateau nestled in the mountains 48 kilometres inland from Marbella. It is one of the prettiest and most historic towns of Costa del Sol and is a popular daytrip for tourists seeking history and culture in one of its many lovely cafes and restaurants. The town is also famous for El Tajo, the plunging river gorge that divides the medieval from the 18th-century parts of the town. The spectacular gorge has a stone bridge, Puente Nuevo that was once a prison and is today a dramatic viewpoint for visitors. The walkway El Parador along the river gorge offers a terrific view of the surrounding landscape. Ronda is also recognized for its bullring - the oldest and largest in Spain. In addition to a museum, the bullring is open to visitors (so long as there are no bull fights ongoing!).


Only 10 minutes from the playground of the rich and famous – Puerto Banus, Gazules del Sol’s Mediterranean village style luxury homes are also just moments away from the picturesque mountain village of Benahavis, known as the dining room of Costa del Sol.

Located on the southern face of the Serrania de Ronda mountain range at a medium altitude of 150m, the views from Benahavis are spectacular. Benahavis was founded by the Romans, occupied by the Arabs and finally conquered by the Spanish Catholic Kings and draws upon its history and rich cultural influences which can be found in the local cuisine, architecture, art and music. Its Moorish heritage is emphasised by the existence nearby of the ruined 11th Century castle of Montemayor.

For the beach bum, there are too many beaches to list here with the closest being the 5km long, blue flag beach of San Pedro Alcantara. Others that are nearby include Playa del Cristo, Playa Nueva Andalucia, Mistral Beach, Heaven Beach, Puro Beach, Plaza Beach, and Ocean Club.

For the golf enthusiast, there are 20 golf courses within a 15 minute drive which include Monte Mayor Golf Club, Atalaya Golf & Country Club, Club de Golf Guadalmina, El Paraiso Golf Club, Marbella Club Golf Resort, Flamingos Golf Club.

A sample of other attractions not to be missed are Funny Beach, Fuengirola Zoo, Selwo Safari Park, Mijas, the aquaparks in Torremolinos and Tivoli World Amusement Park. Gibraltar, Malaga, Ronda and Mijas are all within an easy hour’s drive.

"Fantastic apartment ideal for a super holiday by the pool and near to the beach"

We enjoyed a great 12 days in the well appointed apartment. The real highlight is the proximity to the swimming pool and we were able to leave the patio door open and let the children (6&4) come and go throughout the day for drinks, food, shade and a bit of DvD watching for a siesta !! The apartment itself is furnished to a high standard, very secure and the owner is very much "hands on" in terms of the information he provided before and during our stay. I would strongly recommend a very enjoyable and relaxing stay in this apartment and making full use of the superb Gazules Del Sol complex which is maintained to a very high standard. We also enjoyed many BBq's on the terrace which was a great substitute when we weren't eating out in the local area of Benahavis and all of the fantastic restaurants therein . Thanks again, we will be back next year!

"Great apartment"

The apartment is clean, bright and airy, modern and well equipped. The apartment is exactly as advertised. Although connected to the Wi-Fi our smartphones struggled to update. The local Mercadona is literally outside the main gates and a godsend (be aware closed all day on Sundays). The local village of Benahavis has a lovely selection of restaurants but can get quite busy so might be best to book in advance. The only down side to our stay was that it wasn't long enough so we will have to return......

The internet connection issue was disappointing and I (especially as I work in IT) understand the frustration in this day and age. The WiFi issue has recently been investigated by the Spanish telecomms provider - Telefonica, as others in the complex also reported problems. The problem (with the line, which was preventing connecting to the internet; connecting to the WiFi router was ok) was fixed and has been confirmed by the existing guest who is using an iPhone and iPad without issue. As always, I'd like to thank this guest for informing me so that I was aware and able to ensure the problem was addressed as best possible.

"Fantastic relaxing stay"

Booked this apartment as a last minute getaway 2 adults ,15 + 8 yr old children .and it was even better than we expected The apartment has everything you need inc washer ,DVD player ,wifi There is a large supermarket just outside the gated entrance with everything you need It has a lovely enclosed courtyard one side and a patio/ balcony the other and steps down to a small garden which leads onto the swimming pool which has rattan loungers and day beds Benahavis is 5 mins away with breathtaking scenery and the best restaurants I've been to in a long time Whether you want to relax in the apartment / pool area or take a short drive to puerto banus / Marbella (5mins) this place will not let you down Everything from the initial contact with the owner, to arriving and being met at the apartment to be shown around was first class and professional One last word to the owner thank you for all your time and effort and we will be booking again soon

"I would definitely recommend this property..."

The property was just as advertised..., unlike other rentals off the Internet we have previously experienced... All facilities advertised were in fact provided and pictures did the place justice. The supermarket across the street was a godsend (especially if you have children) and open till 9 pm mon-sat. The complex itself is in well kept condition and all quite new..location is good if you want to be away from busier, tourist areas ... Having a car definitely helpful but I did see taxis hovering around supermarket.. The owner and property manager very courteous and efficient to deal with. We were allowed to stay till evening on our departure date at no extra cost. I would definitely recommend this property.

"Fantastic apartment with lovely pool"

We had a lovely time at the apartment, great for chilling and relaxing by the pool. Walking distance to the supermarket and close to Benhavis which has lots of very nice restaurants

"Comfortable, convenient and relaxing"

A very comfortable and stylish apartment for 4 people, with good facilities, ground floor means you are very close to the swimming pool. Have to use the aircon (a bit underpowered ) as there are no fans. Having the supermarket across the road was very helpful and with all the restaurants in Benahavis close by, it made for a very relaxing vacation.

"Very high standard of accommodation in a luxury complex"

We had a great time and were very happy with the apartment, we felt totally at home and enjoyed the high quality fittings and fixtures, and the complex itself is superb and in a good location if you're happy to drive short distances to reach the beaches. Great swimming pools and gym, gardens, underground parking, good supermarket right next to the complex, etc. The apartment's sun deck has mountain views, a good gas bbq, and leads directly to the nearest pool which is ideal. I would happily recommend it and would certainly consider a repeat visit. Everything we needed to make our holiday complete was included, it really is a fully appointed luxury apartment and feels more spacious than the photos suggest. The property manager was friendly and efficient.

"Fantastic holiday - great apartment with pool just outside the door"

The apartment was clean and well furnished and the kitchen fitted with everything you need on holiday. The supermarket just across the road was ideal too. The pool was a good size for actually swimming in and just outside the apartment only a few steps away we could watch the kids swim whilst sitting having a drink on the patio. Nice and close to other attractions and we had a great day in Gibraltar. Restaurants closeby and lovely beaches too. We would certainly consider another holiday to Gazoles del Sol.
