Gleneagles (a grand name for a little cottage!) is a delightful semi-detached cottage enjoying an enviable position, facing the village green - reputed to be the largest in England. Bembridge Harbour is 300 metres away, and there are superb country and coastal walks from the door.

Both Bembridge and St Helens offer a selection of good beaches, and the fishing is good too! Nearby are the Brading Marshes which now enjoy RSPB and SSSI protection, a treasure trove for bird watchers. There are two good Restaurants, an excellent Pub and several shops on the Green.

The property is perfect for a quiet getaway, for dog lovers, birdwatchers, ramblers, but teenagers will also have a good time, with horse riding, sailing, fishing and all watersports on the doorstep, and Ryde, Sandown, Shanklin are just a short drive. Another bonus: a car is not essential, buses go from the village to the towns and attractions.

The cottage is decorated in a pretty and individual way. with original artwork (some for sale by the artist owner). The garden is safe and sunny, ideal for relaxing and having evening barbeques.

The Isle of Wight region

The origins of St Helens revolved around the 12th century Cluniac Priory and the church, built by the monks and administered by them, but claimed by the Crown in 1414. In 1720 a great wave destroyed the old church, although the tower still stands as a landmark.

St Helens was a port of considerable importance in the 1300's; in 1346 Edward III set sail from there to invade Normandy and Lord Nelson's last view of England was the St Helen's seamark. With the expansion of Cowes, St Helens declined in importance, although many ships still called there.

Bemridge Harbour

St Helens and the adjoining village of Bembridge are located on the Eastern side of the Island; quiet, friendly villages but close to all amenities and near the busy resort towns of Ryde and Sandown. St Helens is a coastal village; a 10 min walk to St Helens Duver which was once the location of the first golf course on the Island, now owned by the National Trust and a favourite beach and picnic spot for locals and visitors.

The Green - divided in 3 parts - is the focus of the village. Used in the Summer for cricket, in the Winter for football, it also is the venue for the Summer Fete, Carnival, Funfair and Sunday car boot sales. It's a place to catch up with friends, or make new ones! There is also a car park, small playground and petanque court.

In addition to two good restaurants, (also the famous Baywatch Café on the beach), a friendly pub and two little shops, the bigger village of Bembridge is nearby. Here are all the shops you might need, including a good butcher, wet fish shop (for local crab and lobster), a farm shop, and two deli's. Also several restaurants, café/bars and pubs.... Even a florist, gift shops, PO, ironmonger, hairdressers .....
