The Isle of Wight region

Located off the South Coast of England, the Isle of Wight is a beautiful and diverse island, linked to the mainland by 3 car ferry, 2 high-speed passenger catamaran and 1 Hovercraft routes. These routes take visitors to excellent road, rail and coach links at either Portsmouth, Southampton or Lymington but the moment you step on the ferry to head to the island your holiday begins.

A large area of the IOW is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and visitors will be delighted by the wonderful scenery and fabulous views. On a clear day you can see for miles across the island and over the Solent to the mainland from the Downs and beaches. Beautiful walks and cycle paths all over the island lead to stunning views of familiar landscapes eg The Needles. Since Victorian times, when Queen Victoria used to holiday at Osborne House, the island has been popular as a holiday destination and remains so today. The beautiful scenery, stunning coast line, sandy beaches, historic monuments and good restaurants and sporting facilities are just a few of the many reasons to holiday on the Isle of Wight.

Historic attractions on the island include Osborne House, Carisbrooke Castle, Brading Roman Villa, Morton Manor, Dinosaur museum, Shanklin Shine and Bembridge Windmill.

Other places to visit are Ventnor Botanical Gardens, The Needles and Alum Bay.

The Isle of Wight Festival, Bestival, Cowes Week Sailing Regatta and the annual Vespa owners rally are a few of the regular highlights of the calendar.Day trips to Portsmouth historic dockyard with shopping at Gun Wharf Quays are easy for visitors.

In short there is lots to do for all age groups.

Bembridge is a small all year round village (3000 residents) on the eastern tip of the island. The village center offers a variety of shops and services including and excellent butcher, delicatessen, bakery, flower shop, local fresh fish shop, Co-op and several restaurants and pubs.

A family friendly village Bembridge offers visitors good amenities and sailing opportunities. There are 2 local sailing clubs with dingy and keel boat racing through the summer and Illusion sailing for the hardy sailor from Bembridge Sailing Club during the winter.

Bembridge has a variety of easily accessible beaches, safe for swimming, crabbing and walking. A local riding stables offer rides on the beach at low tide. A 15 minute drive away is the larger Victorian seaside town of Ryde offering a greater array of shops, cinema, bowling alley and skating rink - perfect if in search of wet weather activities.

Between Ryde and Bembridge is a large 24hr Tesco's and a 9 hole golf course and driving range at Westridge; other golf courses are available at Ryde, Sandown and Cowes.
