Known for its breathtaking scenery (half of the Island has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Beauty), the Isle of Wight first became a popular holiday destination in Victorian times and remains so to this day. It is easy to see why this Island is popular, with its stunning coast line, golden sandy beaches and pretty villages, the Island can either be the perfect family holiday, a retreat to get away from it all or an energetic sporting break.

With over 500 miles of carefully maintained footpaths its ideal for walkers or cyclists. There is an excellent and diverse range of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants located across the Island.


Bembridge is a pretty coastal village located on the eastern tip of the Isle of Wight. Bembridge Harbour, with two sailing clubs, is a great base for sailing and other watersports. During the summer months many visiting yachts come into Bembridge Harbour for weekend visits and rallies

The village centre offers a fantastic array of independent shops and services; from fresh bread baked daily on the premises at Lotties Bakery to locally caught fish on sale at Captain Stan's fishmongers.

Bembridge is home to the Island's only Windmill which has recently been restored by the National Trust. ??Bembridge Harbour until the late 19th Century extended to Brading and was known as Brading Haven, in fact, Bembridge was originally an island. The sea extended from Yaverland in the south through to St. Helens in the north. Bembridge was a sleepy fishing village, also quite a renowned smuggling place. After construction of the embankment, bringing trains to Bembridge, the village grew to become a popular Victorian sea side resort.

Both Bembridge and neighbouring St. Helens hosts sports days, regattas, carnivals and many more local events, flower shows, etc.

Bembridge Harbour is a very popular sailing venue and boasts two popular Sailing Clubs with both dinghy and keel boat racing throughout the summer. Indeed there is now a lot of winter racing in 'Illusions' (one man keel boats) and scows.

"Perfect Location"

We loved Chantries and would definitely stay again. A few little niggles that could easily be rectified like the front drive hedge was so in need of a cut, it was tricky getting in and out of our car. Also, there was no bedside light in the twin room so we pinched the one from the small double as it wasn't being used. The bedding was inappropriate for a very hot spell as the duvets were too warm and there was no provision of top sheets which would have sufficed in the heat. The bathrooms had inadequate shelving so nowhere to put anything and the level of cleaning was slightly underwhelming (dust on picture frames and small ledges). Also the provision of wi-fi would have been useful. BUT, the house was charming with a capital C! Light and airy and so convenient for the nearby Co-op where we bought everything we needed, fresh bread, fruit, wine etc. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need and we dined in most evenings. Also the garden was delightful and we ate breakfast and supper al fresco nearly every day on the lovely garden table and chairs. We also recommend the butchers in Bembridge - his home made pies, chicken or beef were out of this world. Bembridge itself is delightful and we will definitely return.
