Available all the year round, this beautifully restored property has now been further refurbished to able t o incorporate TWO spacious gites and can if required, provide accommodation from 1 to 20 people maximum (16 nominal, please ask for details if more than this). It boasts its own private access, parking and sun terrace with swimming pool.

The gite has been well stocked with everything you will need for your break or longer stay. There is an attractive woodburning fire and good electric heating if you are planning a wintertime stay.

The gite is situated in a small and friendly village called Belvianes, around 1hour from the coast and 45 minutes from skiing stations. Nearby Quillan provides you with shops and amenities and both Quillan, Axat and Limoux all have a lovely outdoor swimming pools , good restaurants and markets for you to enjoy. The Aude river is just at the end of the road and it is possible to swim there in the summer, along with lakes within 20 minutes drive at Puivert and Arques.

Along with being a peaceful spot, this also is an ideal base to discover this region of France famed for it's climate, history, wine, walking and white water rafting on the Aude river and of course it's truly spectacular scenery.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

This year, a new restaurant has opened near by and, it is 1 minute walk away! We have an association with the restaurant and all our customers will benefit from a discount! This area benefits from good all year round temperatures and therefore is a great location for those of you who enjoy being outdoors. It is possible to walk from the gite, around the river valley to Quillan and back quite easily and there are longer signposted walks for those who want them. White water rafting is available in the village along with nearby facilities for horseriding, canyoning and cycling and swimming.

The Languedoc Rousillion is famous for wine and here you will not be spoilt for choice. Try the local caves of Caudiès de Fenouillèdes, St Paul de Fenouillet, Maury, Estagel, Lesquerde and so many more you won't be disappointed!

A favourite trip whilst in the area is to explore the Cathar chateux of Puilaurens ( around 10minutes drive) and also the castles of Queribus and Peyrepeteuse. Carcassonne and its medieval cité is a great day out and if you are here for Bastille day on the 14th July, the fireworks are spectacular. Down on the coast you will find the pretty villages of Collioure and Port Vandres which are well worth a visit and do sample the seafood while you are there along with the Port of Argeles and the long sandy beach of Argeles Plage.

If its' skiing you are interested in, the ski slopes of Puyvalador are around 45minutes from the Gite. Puyvalador is a smaller resort popular with the locals and the bigger resorts are at Les Angles and Font Romeu are just over an hour away. There are many great restaurants in Axat, Quillan, Cailla and Gincla so you will be spolt for choice.

Belvianes et Cavirac area

There are local markets in Axat, Quillan, St Paul and Esperaza selling local crafts and produce. Do try the cured hams and meats and local cheeses, delicious! This year, a new restaurant has opened near by and, it is 1 minute walk away! We have an association with the restaurant and all our customers will benefit from a discount!

If you are here in the summer you can't go far without experiencing the village fêtes, a real opportunity to mix with the locals and dance the way into the night. Throughout the summer there are open air music festivals in Perpignan and Carcassonne. If you are lucky, you may see the Tour de France cycle race which in July usually passes through the village. Also in July there is the International Folklore Festival in Quillan for a week and also the fete in Quillan in August. There is a good tourist board in Quillan who can help book various outings also.

There is a small open air train which leaves from Axat in the summer which runs through the valley and gorges to St Paul and if wanted, you can then continue by coach to the famous Gorges de Galamus which is breathtaking at any time of the year.

How to get there

Nearest airports are Carcassonne and Perpignan within the hour, also try Toulouse, Beziers and Girona (Barcelona) which are a little further away around 2 hours.

The living accommodation comprises of:

Huge open plan living area with comfortable sofas, attractive fireplace and wood burning stove, dining area with dining room table and chairs (we can increase to seat 20 people), fully fitted kitchen with all appliances, fridge and freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, toaster, kettle, microwave etc. Separate WC and hand washing facilities off the open plan lounge area also. Beautiful views over the Aude river valley from the front of the house and private terrace at the back of the house.

Bedrooms: 1 family double bedroom (with mezzanine above with 2 single beds), 5 further double bedrooms (one of the double bedrooms having a single bedroom with bunk beds) but bedrooms have with en suite facilities very tastefully decorated along with heating for winter months. All bed linen,towels and tea towels are provided for you.

Attractive spacious terrace with seating for up to 20 people, swimming pool and 2 barbecues. The views from the terrace are stunning: a perfect place to relax whilst the children (or yourselves) cool down in the pool and later have a barbecue and watch the sunset.

There is a private driveway and plenty of parking and there is good wheelchair friendly/disabled access to the upstairs private entrance. One of the bedrooms also has a large entrance to enable the use of wheelchairs if required.
