The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region
With 300 days of sunshine, the Languedoc-Rousillon offers a year round opportunity to experience the surrounding scenery with its stunning gorges, lakes and vineyards.
The department of Aude boasts a rich historical heritage, with the stunning Cathar castles on many of the hilltops, the mystery of Rennes-les-Chateau and the magnificent medieval city of Carcassonne.
The area is ideal for outdoor pursuits including walking, water sports (white water rafting within village), cycling (Tour de France goes through village), climbing, caving etc. plus ski-ing in the winter season.
Other places of interest include:
Thermal springs at Rennes-les-Bains & Alet-les-Bain Thermal pool at Rennes - les- Bain - open all year round. Perpignan - gateway to Spain, full of history and wonderful for shopping in the old and the new quarters. Mirepoix - wonderful medievel town with famous market square - the entire perimeter is rimmed by old beams and wooden heads. Each carving is individual. Gorge de Galamus - amazing limestone gorge worn through the ridge by the river Agly. Mediterrenean beaches just over 1 hour away. Miles of safe sandy beaches. Sentier Cathar (walking route through the Pyrenees) The famous Little Yellow Train - take the open air train through the Fenouillede mountain range or the Tet valley.
Belvianes et Cavirac area
Belvianes et Cavirac is a small village (approx 300 people) nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees at the entrance to the Gorges Pierre Lys.
Excellent local restaurant, just five minutes walk away, offering regional food and wine. Quillan, the local market town (4km away) offers all amenities including outdoor swimming pool, shops, restaurants, boulangerie, boucherie etc. During the summer months there is a weekly night market (Thursday) with live entertainment).
Open air swimming pool at Axat - with water slide (10mins) - stunning scenery all around. Lie on the grass under a tree whilst the children swim in the pool. Lake at Puivert (20mins) - spend the day by the sandy beach of this fresh water lake. There is a small cafe/restaurant and again the scenery is beautiful.
Local Events - 11 - 14 July - Fête de la Saint Jacques (Esperaza) 13 July - Feu d'artifice au chateau (fireworks to celebrate Bastille day, followed by dancing) 17 July - TOUR DE FRANCE : Stage 12 Lavelanet - Narbonne - Passes through Belvianes et Cavirac 18 - 20 July - Festival de Guitare (acoustic concerts in open air) 30 July - 3 August - Festival de Folklore International (8 international dance troups tour the local villages) 8 - 10 August - Festival de Jazz 14 - 17 August - Grande Fêtes de la Ville (Quillan) 13 - 21 September - Festival de Chants (concerts of traditional singing in the local churches)

There is a TV for playing videos, with a large selection of films. There is also a CD player with a large selection of music. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils, pots and pans and a large slow cooker. There is a washing machine, electric oven and grill.

When the sun sets behind the mountain opposite the landscape changes to a wonderful pink colour for a while. On road parking is available opposite the house.
