Home description
'Le Studio', which is part of 'Les Cabanes Hautes' is on the garden level of an original refurbished farm house. It has a large terrace, living/kitchen area, double bed, shower/wc, garden furniture and BBQ with a shared laundry room.
Set in peaceful grounds with stunning swimming pool giving views over the valley, 'Le Studio' is 6 kms from the hilltop town of Belves with its restaurants, bars and Saturday market. Also close by is Siorac, with an Intermarche supermarket at a 10 minute drive and the Lolivarie Golf Club (18 holes) at a 5 minute drive.
Sarlat, the capital of the Perigord Noir lies 30 kms east and is well worth a visit to sample its extensive shopping, restaurants and Saturday and Wednesday markets. This is a beautiful medieval city of honeyed stone, lit at night by the warm glow of gas lamps. Domme, another Bastide town, Beynac, an enchanting riverside village with a magnificent Chateau, La Roque Gageac, the third most visited town in France and Lascaux and Les Eyzies with prehistoric caves and museum all lie 20/25 kms from Les Cabanes Hautes.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
The Perigord Noir is one of the most outstandingly beautiful regions of France. Set in the valleys of the Dordogne and Vezere rivers, close to Lascaux, Sarlat, Beynac, Monpazier and Domme, the Perigord Noir is a striking blend of prehistoric caves hidden in tree-covered valleys, with medieval castles dating from the 100 Years War and ancient farmhouses on quiet roads set along meandering rivers and on wooded hillsides. This area is an archaeologists' heaven, for the region has been continuously inhabited by man for tens of thousands of years, longer than any other area in Europe. It is rich with all the ingredients necessary for a good holiday - uncluttered landscapes, empty roads, clean rivers and good regional cuisine.
Several other 'most beautiful villages of France' as well as Belves are found in the region and are easily accessible including La Roque Gageac and Monpazier.
The region is also perfect for walking or cycling and draws many fishermen and canoeists.
Belves area
Belves (one of the 'most beautiful villages of the Dordogne') is 15 kms north of Monpazier and 20kms south of Sarlat-la-Caneda. It is a lively and attractive bastide town, well preserved, with lots of medieval features intact. I has also retained its interesting 15th century covered market. In the centre of town, below the 'Place des Armes' you can visit the cave/troglodyte dwellings. These date from the 13th century onwards and provide a fascinating glimpse into life as it was during the medieval era. You will also see the medieval walls and belfry, the city hall and a 14th century castle. Belves is also known as the 'town of seven bell towers'. Like many of the towns in the region, Belves was constructed up the side of a rocky outcrop, giving it fine open views across the countryside. One event not to be missed is the annual medieval festival held in Belves during early August, when the town briefly reverts to the 15th century. Everything from jugglers to falconry is on display creating a realistic medieval event. The Belves Tourist Information office provides maps of the many walks available, including GR and biking trails. It can also provide details of the many sporting and cultural events taking place in the area over the year. Belves has small restaurants, cafes and various shops, including patisseries and boulangeries offering fresh croissants and ready made meals. This is a bustling, welcoming small hilltop town.
A Saturday market takes place in Belves and a larger town market fills the streets of Sarlat on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There are markets in nearly every town nearby providing a vast panoply of food and drink including many Perigordine specialities such as foie gras, walnuts, black truffles, cepes, cheeses of every shape, age and hue and a huge range of pork delicacies.
Tennis courts are available in Belves and horse riding stables may be found both in Belves and in the surrounding area. The Lolivarie golf course (18 holes) also provides a general restaurant and welcoming bar and La Forge golf course (9 holes) can be found in nearby Siorac.
