Converted Chapel | 8 bedrooms | sleeps 22
A split-level riverside stone chapel, with river views, created by the conversion of a large Methodist Chapel and Schoolroom, built in 1846 in the conservation area of the historic mill village of Milford, in the wooded valley of the River Derwent. The local area is of great interest to enthusiasts of our industrial heritage is lots of walking close at hand.
This fine stone building has been skilfully converted into a large and most characterful holiday home, offering good quality accommodation, yet retaining much of the Chapel's original character and charm, with exposed beams, some original pews, marble plaques, chapel doors, and with the old pulpit featured in the balconied lower lounge! The Chapel has its own little raised lawned garden with ramp access, and picnic tables and barbecue.
There are five bathrooms of which 3 are en suite. All bedrooms except one have a wash basin and the two family bedrooms have an additional shower.
Sports available in the area include tennis, fishing and bowls, three good riding and trekking stables within a mile or so, several local golf courses, fishing and canoeing in the Derwent, and Belper's fully equipped family Sports Centre just two miles away. The area is noted for its Real Ale and there are four great pubs within half a mile, including The King William Pub, just next door. There are shops and restaurants close by, and easy street parking at the Chapel gate and just down the lane. There are two seven-day supermarkets in Belper 1 1/2 miles up the A6.
It's in an area rich in heritage, with mills, canals, museums and the Derwent Valley Visitor Centre all nearby, and attractions such as the Crich Tramway Village Museum, Matlock Bath's Cable Cars & Gulliver's Kingdom, Alton Towers and the scenic limestone dales of the Peak Park & Carsington Water all an easy drive. 2 sports centres within 4 miles, and climbing, caving, gliding & watersports all under 20 miles

"Tatty , desperately in need of up dating and maintenance"
Stayed here with family friends and due to good company had a great time. However only 1 of the 2 microwaves worked if you physically held the door shut. 2 plugs in the living area had pins missing fr… More
Please see the management response to the review of 'Needs a Safety Inspection' as you are a member of the same group. The one call about the slight leak under the sink did not make anything sound urgent and it was stated that the information was just to let me know. I did try to return the call but at the time was in a remote valley with no phone reception and by the time I received reception there was no response at the chapel. The reception in the chapel is very hit and miss depending on what part of the building you are in. However nothing sounded urgent and that was the only thing mentioned and a plumber could easily have been called in.

"Needs a safety inspection"
Stayed this new year, could be a fabulous place but needs new settees as most of them are broken. Microwave doesn't work and there's a note saying it's doesn't work and they'r… More
During the visitors stay the only problem mentioned was on an answering machine message stating that a sink was leaking slightly but it was no problem and the customer was just informing me of this fact. Nothing else was mentioned at all. I had an amicable exchange with the customer after her stay but this all appears to have changed after there was a deduction from the security deposit for missing items.
However, I have to comment that the sofas are not broken? There are two microwaves which work fine, a handle on one of the microwaves does have a chip of plastic missing from it, but this does not affect the way it functions. What owner would leave a note saying 'It doesn't work and they are not replacing it'?
The kitchen is very well equipped and the items mentioned could have been replaced quickly from the supply of spares.
As far as safety is concerned one plug was found to be damaged with the pin dropping out. It had had some severe treatment. The property is inspected annually by Visit Britain.
