The Northern England / Northumberland region
Northumbria is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife. Covering 400 square miles, the Northumberland National Park is the least populated of England’s National Parks, much to the benefit of those visitors seeking peace and solitude. Thousands of paths and tracks weave their way through beautiful countryside, providing exhilarating fresh air and wide-open spaces for walkers and cyclists alike. Stay a while, roam the countryside but don’t forget to explore further, because the area known as Northumbria offers much more than just the National Park.
Northumbria encompasses County Durham, the Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear, as well as covering the North Pennines ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, the City of Durham and the Heritage Coastline, boasting a selection of protected golden beaches and tiny fishing villages. Northumberland’s Heritage Coast has mile upon mile of sparkling beaches, rocky coves and picturesque fishing villages. Sweeping from Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north, to Druridge Bay in the south, popular destinations along the coastline include the horseshoe-shaped sandy beach and dunes at Beadnell Bay, the bustling village of Seahouses, with boat trips from the picturesque harbour, and the kipper smokery and coastal path at Craster.
Adding to the area’s splendour is a chain of magnificent castles: Alnwick, home to the powerful Percy family and the setting for some of the Harry Potter films; spectacular, medieval Bamburgh, standing high on its rocky outcrop; the brooding ruins of Dunstanburgh and pretty Warkworth.
The Bellingham area
Bellingham is a delightful market town that is rumoured to be sited on an ancient Roman Station, and offers a 12th Century church, Heritage centre, and 30ft waterfall to the north. Bellingham is known as the capital of the North Tyne Valley, and is situated close to the banks of the River North Tyne. This charming town of natural stone houses is on the edge of the Northumberland National Park and just a short drive from Hadrian's Wall and the lovely Kielder Forest and Water. The surrounding natural area is an unspoiled nature lover’s paradise, and offers many outdoor leisure opportunities including walking, fishing, horse riding and wildlife watching. An excellent golf course can be found nearby, along with many fascinating historical sites and stately homes and gardens.

Guestbook for 2219 - Juniper Cottage
Juniper Cottage was such a warm cottage, very necessary for comfort at the end of October! The owner had thought of everything for our comfort and even a bottle of wine and chocs for our 30th Wedding Anniversary.
Mrs Newton, Isle Of Man,

,The accommodation was first class. The quality of the furniture, beds, linens, towels, tv, and video were all excellent. The local people were friendly and there are plenty of places to enjoy good food, particularly the Holly Bush Inn in Greenhaugh. There is plenty to see and do in the area, the Bird of Prey Centre at Keilder is a must see.
