The Rede Valley is a wonderfully peaceful area of Northumberland. It enjoys good road links so is easily accessible for many tourist attractions ie. Hadrians Wall, Kielder Water and Forest Park, Scottish Borders, Alnwick and the Northumberland Coast but its unique attraction lies in its location. It is a beautiful valley surrounded by rugged moorland and the Cheviot Hills - where you can walk for hours without meeting a soul. The cottage is perfect for lovers of the outdoors: walkers, cyclists, fishing enthusiasts or for just 'getting away from it all' and unwinding for a few days and soaking in the sounds and observing life on a working farm

Lovely large private garden securely fenced for dogs. Patio area with barbecue facilities and garden furniture.
Please note that short breaks are fri-mon (3 day) and mon-fri (4 day)
Northern England region
The Rede Valley is located in rural Northumberland, 15 miles from the Scottish borders. It was home to the infamous Border Reivers in centuries gone by. It is a beautiful, wild and rugged area. Isolated but enjoying good road access. It lies in the Northumberland National Park which is fantastic for outdoor leisure pursuits - fishing, walking, cycling, horse riding, to name but a few.
Locally there are bastles, pele towers and castles to explore that all reveal the history of the area. There are numerous stately homes and gardens that open their doors to the public - Wallington, Belsay Hall and Cragside Country House. Otterburn is a central location for exploring Northumberland with World Heritage Site, Hadrian's Wall, only 20 miles away and Kielder Water and Forest Park only 20mins drive. The Scottish border is only 15 miles away with lovely market towns such as Kelso, Jedburgh and Melrose to discover.
Northumberland is still a relatively undiscovered County. While Summer brings tourists to the coast, inland it is still possible to hike for a day in the Cheviot hills and not bump into another soul!
Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the Northumberland Heritage Coast are just over 1hr drive away along scenic country roads. The drive alone is a must but a trip to the coast is worthwhile come rain or shine.
Otterburn village has a well stocked shop for food provisions. It even does take away meals on a saturday evening. Otterburn Mill stocks outdoor clothing, shoes and equipment as well as traditional rugs. Many of the local hotels and pubs serve good quality meals with local produce widely available. Otterburn Festival takes place in July. Vintage vehicles are the bedrock of the two-day event alongside various display teams - dog agility, birds of prey,RAF parachute team. Proceeds go to support the Air Ambulance and Help the Heroes.
Nearby Bellingham, 8 miles, has a larger range of food stores and craft shops, pubs and tea rooms. The Heritage Centre and Carriage tea rooms are a must, as is a walk up Hareshaw Linn to the waterfall.
Kielder Water and Forest Park are only a 20min drive and has excellent and challenging cycle and walking routes and family activities including birds of prey centre.

"A true gem - everything we hoped for and more!"
We booked a week at the cottage as a base for a family holiday with my husband and 2 year old prior to going to a wedding at Woodhill Hall which is conveniently a few minutes up the road (easy walk on the roadside if you choose as long as you're not in heels!).
We were treated to fresh eggs and cake on arrival and the cottage was perfectly presented, modern and clean but also warm and welcoming. For me the photos don't do the cottage justice and each room felt bigger than expected.
Kate is a brilliant host, there for anything you need but quietly so. The cottage is well stocked with all the local info on things to do and places to go. We both treated ourselves to a Tai Massage with Kate. I'm a total convert and it was the best massage I have ever had in the idyllic setting of her garden studio.
We found it well placed for day trips out to Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Bamburgh Castle and beach and Kielder Water Bird of Prey Centre.
The cottage itself offers a well fenced garden perfect for little ones to let of steam in safely. I even enjoyed doing the washing up as the view of lambs, fields and hills from the kitchen window is stunning.
